My apologies if a similar topic has been posted, but does anybody know how the IU fans are reacting to Crean's hiring? Certainly he was a good catch, but are they optimistic? Pessimistic? Unimpressed?

Well, go over to Peegs board (by far the biggest IU board) and they're going crazy with love they are so happy.  Crean says what they want to hear and so they're eating it up right now.  Some were upset yesterday but after today's press conference it's as unified an IU Fan Base as I've seen in a decade, and I follow it very closely.

IU has gone through the Knight divorce, the Davis coronation, hiring of dirty Kelvin Sampson....they've been a fan base divided for a LONG LONG TIME.  Honestly, they needed someone like him.  That's why I think he'll do just fine there because they will eat it up.  Don't be shocked to see IU in Final Fours, etc in the next 5 to 7 years.  It will take awhile, but he's got a honeymoon and the base is behind him, which will make his recruiting around that area easier then ever.  He'll clean up in recruiting.

Intresting developments on the IU boards.  Before they were maybe 25/75 for Crean most of the usual arguements not enoguh NCAA wins, can't recruit for the long haul after the press conference today and his MU acceptence speach with IU substitutes they general consensus 80/20 he is the next John Wooden.

I get the sense most are happy the search is over since this soao opera has played since Knight left and gvien the problems surrounding the program this is a good hire.  I used to like Crean but the way he left town under the cover of darkness I say you can have him.
