Do you guys realize the largest gathering of head and assistant basketball coaches in the country is scheduled for this weekend?

Something tells me Cottingham is going to need his cell phone charger.

Let's hope he doesn't forget his "Hello My Name is Cottingham" sticker back in MKE.

Somehow I think Steve will be a popular man in San Antonio.

If there's a better job currently open that is better than MU, I'd like to know what it is. For everyone that thinks the sky is falling and we won't get a good coach, just remember....$$$. Coaches aren't dumb, and when it comes down to it, $$$ is usually a big factor in where someone is willing to go.

Now, just because you have money to invest, doesn't always mean you'll do it wisely (obviously everyone's fear). But the fact that MU has shown that they are willing to pay someone top dollar will automatically increase the candidate pool....no question about it.

Maybe the current players would not mind a change of head coaches.  Many times the head coach is the bad cop in the good cop/bad cop scenario.

I'm hearing that the OSU job will probably pay more, thanks to T. Boone Pickens.

Otherwise, this is an attractive opening for lotsa coaches who would otherwise be pretty happy where they are.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

Pickens will pay someone top dollar (I'd have to imagine), but...there is no way in hell that is a better job than MU. Consider the cirumstances.

-Anyone who gets a huge deal to go there will have GIGANTIC expectations to make that place a winner, and quickly. Sure Marquette will have big expectations, but if he's going to pay you big bucks, you better win and win now.

-It's a football school, despite what old man Sutton did there, football will always be king (even to Boone)

-Ask Sean Sutton how good of a gig it is. Two years, he's out the door.

Tremendous opportunity, no question about it.

The players' demeanor yesterday suggests otherwise, although they need time to digest, same as us.

As for this weekend, I agree Cottingham's face will be very familiar before it is out.  We'll find a coach, maybe even a damn good one.  But worry-warts on the board can be forgiven for worrying.  Watching your blue-chip recruits immediately start looking for another gig will have that effect.
