...Tyshawn Taylor and Nick Williams (both of whom have asked MU to release them from their committment) end up at Indiana.

NO WAY MU ALLOWS THAT.
But I like to throw handfuls...

i dont think there's anything MU can do about it.

yes they can. they can put contingencies on the release just like transferring players. unless the player pays his own way to the new school.

Tom Crean's Tanning Bed

No way that MU allows that.

I say if any of our recruits or current players get released, they won't be able to go to any other Big East school, Indiana, Wisconsin, or any program that MU has a game scheduled with in the future (i.e. UWM).  Typically how things work with D1 athletes.

anyone know if this is NCAA rule?  I'd hate to think Crean would end up w/ Taylor and Williams (maybe Mbakwe) at IU.  I don't mind if he takes his tanning bed, but not our incoming players.

I will almost guarantee you that nobody currenty associated with MU - player or recruit will end up at Indiana. I've lost some respect for Crean, but I don't think he's that low. If I'm wrong on that, I'm more than happy he's gone.

LastWarrior

He's not getting either of them.  Only chance he has is bringing Buzz to IU and getting Eric Williams (2009 recruit).

The school holds all the cards if a signed LOI was received.  Not so with a verbal agreement such as Erik Williams.

Most often the school will grant the request but a couple years back Tyler Smith signed with homestate Tennessee and coach Buzz Peterson.  Peterson was fired and Smith wanted out.  Tennessee would not issue a release.  Not sure how this fits with the timing of Bruce Pearl being named head coach.
Smith ended up attending a 5th year prep school and signed with Iowa.  After one season Alford resigned and Smith was on the move again.   This time back to Tennessee and he was granted a hardship waiver by the NCAA, allowing him to play immediately, to be near his ailing father (who has since passed)

Kevin O'Neill brought Keith Stewart and Ron Curry with him from Arizona. Stweart lasted half a season for MU but Curry was a stud and helped turn the program around.

Krunti Hester also followed Deane to Lamar.

So, it wouldn't surprise me if some followed him to Indiana.

Stewart, if I recall correctly, transferred from Purdue.

Both Curry and Hester transferred after a year at their original schools.

Norm

Ah, you're right about Stewart. Only Curry followed O'Neill to MU.

Not really an accurate picture, nor comparable situations.

Keith Stewart was from Milwaukee, and actually went to Purdue, and transfered to MU.

Ron Curry was from Illinois, never played at AZ, nor was he in the future plans so decided to transfer. Decent player, but hardly a stud, not by Arizona standards anyway.

Kruntie Hester went to Lamar after Deane was fired, and Crean showed him the door.

None of those were situations where a coach left and stole away recruits.

Not gonna happen.

sooo, what do you think the odds are that we can retain them?  50/50?
