Lets wait and see - The assistants are strong and the worst case scenario is Buzz picking up the reins and flying to see the recruits to reassure them everything is in place.

We also need Mcneal and James to show some leadership here.

Thomas' Danish Delight

I saw McNeal and Burke walking back to Humphrey from I assume the Al...I was walking the other way but I could tell they were hanging their heads and weren't looking to happy...and I swear I heard Burke say "It's all over" or something like that

I know it's not war or surgery, but, Crean leaving like this is a disaster of the first magnitude:

Here's why:

It makes us look like some poor mid-major way station.

It is happening at a timne when we ahve an inexperienced newly appointed AD.

It makes the MU job look like it's so bad that even with no players, no recruits, and possible sanctions, the IU job is better than the MU job.

In short, it's terrible for our image and for recruiting.  And, at this level, it is all about recruiting.  You may not want to believe so, but, this is a serious public kick in the nads.

MR.HAYWARD

Wrong!!!  Did Texas A&M look like a mid major because their coach went to Kentucky?  Illinois because theirs went to Kansas or Kansas because theirs went to UNC?  Step off the ledge Iu is a top 7 program in the country.  We are a top 30 prgram and their are alot of great coaches that would love to coach at Mu and in the BE.

Overreact much? I'll grant you the AD thing, but this is Fr. Wilde's hire anyway. Mid-major? C'mon.

Replace the name Indiana with UCLA, UNC, or Kansas under the exact same circumstances and nobody questions the move for one second. Big Ten haters like me don't like to admit it, but Indiana is still on that list. Beyond that, Tom Crean has clearly demonstrated over the years and with this move, hat he is highly motivated by money. I have no problem with that, I like the stuff too, but I think its reasonable at this point that we all call it what it is.

With what MU has demonstrated they are willing/able to pay, to think we can't attract a top flight coach is just silly.

Best comment of the night... we need the seniors and Lazar to step up and assume ownership of this team and this program.  Right now, this is their legacy... finish what they came here to do.  They're bigger than one coach.  They have a tremendous opportunity in front of them next year... don't let the loss of a coach change the great things that lie ahead for them.

I agree - the team needs to make Crean realize he messed up.

Thanks Hayward.  I needed to read a post like yours after seeing all the negativity on this board.  C'mon people, our coach left.  Big deal.  We will move on.

Not many people in this world hate the Probation 11 as much as I do and I accept that IU is a Top 7 job.   After evaluating things though, I'm not sure why it is.

Overreaction?  Top 30 program?

The reason we are a top 30 program just moved down the road to Indiana.

Two of our top incoming recruiots are rumored to be seeking releases of their LOI's.

Mbakwe is rumored to be considering a transfer.

Our current players are in shock.

If you don't think this is a little embarrassing and the perception is that MU just took a slap in the face, you are in denial.

Let's face it, right or wrong, kids sign to play for a coach and gettting the best kids is what makes a program a top 30 program.  And that guy has just left with virtually no forewarning.  What is our current state?  Who knows if the 3 amigos will stay?  What to make of our current group of first year players, Christopherson, Hazel, Mbakwe, etc?

I'd say it is a crisis for the program.

Now, with crisis comes opportunity, but I'd feel a whole let better about the future if we had not been blindsided and if I had not witnessed the long dry spells between great coaches here.  Like him or not, TC was very good for the program.  Let's hope the next hire will be as successful.
