I know this might be a very unpopular opinion but Marquette can not let a "holier than thou" attitude get in the way.  And what I mean  by this is that if a great recruiter comes along who might not have the most squeeky clean image, we should not dismiss him because we think that he is a cheat or a liar.

Basketball is Marquette that is what we are known for, we are not Harvard, we are not Duke, we are not Princeton and if you ask me we cant let ethics get in the way of not picking up a great coach.

We also cant settle for an assistant coach, we just cant, we are two big for an assistant and we dont want recruits to think we are a lesser program because we couldnt hire a big time coach.

Colin Cowheard said it best when he said that fans of a school are willing to overlook cheating and scandal when their team is winning.

Bobby Knight was the king of Scandal but he won and everyone looked away.
Kelvin Sampson was a god at Oklahoma and everyone looked away
Calipari isnt mr squeky clean at Memphis but evryone is looking away.

Yet when Kelvin Sampson isnt having an awesome year at Indiana the same fans that supported Knight were all "O Sampson what a jerk and what a cheat"  do any of you think that IU fans would have cared about Sampson if they were top 5 in the country?

Secondly Marquette needs to hire a black coach, in order to get the 5 star recruits.

Mike Anderson would be a home run but I dont think he would leave MU for MU

NCAA sanctions sound like a great idea to me

Wow....

🏀

How did you 1.) Gain acceptance to Marquette and 2.) Graduate?

Jumping Jesuit

The day we throw ethics out the window is the day when most, if not all, MU supporters completely walk away from the program.  Compromising on ethics means that everything the university stand for is a joke.  Just look at our graduation rate the past couple of years?!  Universities are for educating--not playing b-ball.  I would rather be a "Marquette University" than a Cincinnati under Hudge-skins.

Probably didn't.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

I just make so much sense that it sounds crazy.

In regards to my hiring a black coach comment

1. Most 5 star players are black: FACT
2. People like playing for who they have something in common with FACT

Why don't we hire that K-State coach...I hear they're killa

TJ

I couldn't possibly disagree more.  Worst post of the year.  I would rather lose with ethics than win a title without.  I think a majority would agree with that.  However, I also don't believe ethics and winning are mutually exclusive.

Don Imus, ladies and gentlemen.

Even scarier - he is an educator of some sort.  Be afraid for your kids future.

He's got a point.
When all those five-star recruits at UNC, Florida, Duke, Texas, Memphis, Louisville, Ohio State, Michigan State and UCLA see their head coach, it's just like looking in a mirror.

monkeyman34

great post Pakuni,  i was just about to do the same

only a warrior

C'mon, most people on this board have been supporters for a long time - through Hank, Majerus, Dukiet and Deane - with no sanctions or knuckleheads brought on board.  If I wanted this type of crap to happen to a school I support, I follow Huggy Bear or Pat Kennedy.

NateDoggMarq

Listen I teach at an all Black school so the fact that you are insinuating that I am racist is ridiculous

Who do all the black kids in my school relate to the most??  The black teachers.

I am sorry that Basketball is important to me, but a national title would do wonders for Marquette and I want that in any way possible!!!!

NCAA is big boy sports not CYO it is a win at all cost attitude and marquette needs to get with the times.

If you think Crean was a Saint you are fooling yourself!!!

I would love to get a great recruiter who is a Saint but those dont exist!!!!

ecompt

they throw ethics out the window, they can throw about $20 million in alumni donations out with it. I would rather they go 6-22 every year.

NateDogg -

You should be absolutely ashamed. There is a legitimate reason why you are the only person who I have ever used the ignore button on (on the Marquette Scout forum). I fear for the children you teach. Not just because of this post, but because of all others. But this...this beauty....it is the cherry on the top of a mound of $@#. Disgusting.

NateDoggMarq

Ecompt the point is if we were winning National Championships and are coach wasnt the most ethical guy you wouldnt give a crap and dont kid yourself.

You would try to make it seem like what the coach was doing wasnt to bad and you would rationalize his winning at the cost of being the most ethical.

If you dont believe this how in gods name was Bobby Knight allowed to physically abuse kids yet every Alumni loved him?? BECAUSE HE WON CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!  In order to rationalize this they told everyone to look at one of Knights positives and that was his graduation rate.

Tell me what was so horrible about what I said.
I said nothing racist nothing sexist, nothing.

If you think the fact that we should have black coach is racist because of the ability to recruit than you are grasping at straws.

bma725

You miss the point completely Nate.  MU is a religious institution and as such has to hold itself to a higher standard than places like Memphis, Indiana, Oklahoma etc.  It may not mean a thing to you, but it means a heck of a lot to plenty of alums who would turn their back on the institution should that kind of behavior take place.

MUCam

Nate -

Reread the initial title of your post. Need I say more? Is that what you teach your student? When you are truly devoted to a cause, when you truly truly want a desired outcome, throw ethics out the window. That is garbage and, again, you should be ashamed. I won't even comment on your short-sighted and ignorant comment regarding the hiring of a black coach.

With that, I am done. Best of luck to you. Let's hope that one day you think before you opine.

ecompt

sorry, nate, you are dead wrong. I have no dreams of ever winning another national championship at MU. Getting players to go to Milwaukee and have to go class is tough enough. You're not going to get the McDonald's kids to go there. I would NEVER give a nickel to a school that was coached by Tarkanian or Huggins or Sampson or Calipari.

Exactly what evidence/support do you have for claim that black coaches are better recruiters or are more likely to land five-star recruits?

What was Tubby's most glaring weakness at Kentucky?
Name all the great African-American (i.e. don't have the name Lopez) Trent Johnson has brought to Stanford.
How about a listing of all the five-star players Tommy Amaker recruited to Michigan?
