Anyone else notice how much the refs let slide for North Carolina last night? They were very aggressive on D and only got called for about a quarter of the fouls they committed. Hansborough, while a great player, should have fouled out about 5 minutes into the 2nd half. He had at least 5 over-the-backs on Padgett that were never called and two blatant hacks on his arms that were also let go. Even Dick Enberg was commenting on fouls that Hansborough was getting away with. Think Barro would have gotten away with those?

Big Papi

Hansborough took that game over at the end and yes he got away with a lot of hacks that should have been called which would have had him riding the pine resulting in a possible Louisville win.

Hansborough flops more then the whole Wisconsin team, and thats a fact.

I would definitely disagree with that.  Hansborough goes balls to the wall for 40 minutes every game.  If there was one player I would choose to add to the Marquette team of this year it would be him.  We would be nearly impossible to beat with that.  The guy plays for the love of the game, unlike a lot of kids who now play just to get to the league and make money (see:Mayo, Beasley, etc.).

No I'm not Jay Bilas, but I kind of wish I was...he got to play college basketball at Duke (who I HATE, but I respect them because I love the game of basketball) and now is an NCAA basketball analyst for ESPN.  That's a pretty sweet life right there.  What's wrong with Bilas?  He gives Marquette more respect than they deserve and is a very good analyst, one of two (along with Bob Knight) who actually knows what he's talking about when he analyzes teams (Vitale just yells, Phelps just sucks ND's dick, Gotlieb has no clue what he's talking about, etc.).  He has his complete Final Four correct, and yeah it was easy because all four 1 seeds made it, but who ever predicts all four 1 seeds to go to the Final Four?  There had always been at least one 1 seed out before the Final Four, but he predicted it all right.  I like UNC and always have, is there a problem with that?  I would take Beasley over him in the NBA draft, because he has more talent already and much more potential, but he takes plays, and even games, off.  Hansborough never takes a possession off.  If you've watched him play there is no way you can't respect the kid.  He's clearly playing for the love of the game.  It was like the Florida team of the last 2 years.  You might not have liked them, but you had to respect them if you were a true basketball fan because clearly they were in it for the love of the game, as Horford, Noah (especially...would've been the number 1 overall pick if he left a year earlier), and Brewer all could've been lottery picks after their first National Championship but they came back for a shot at another one.  I would easily take a player who has SLIGHTLY worse stats but MUCH more determination (Hansborough...not to mention a player who will stay in school for at least 3, and most likely 4, years) than I would a player with SLIGHTLY better stats but isn't always determined to play his hardest (Beasley) on my COLLEGE team.

I would agree with you, however, that he is not more of a competitor than MJ was.

jaybilaswho?

I dont know if he flops more than the sconnie badgers but he difinetly travels more than anyone in the country.

I don't understand the logic that the media is using that Hansbrough is the national POY over Beasley because UNC is the best team in the country.  Without Hansbrough UNC is still a top 10 team, while without Beasley Kansas State is an NIT team.  How does Hansbrough's having much better teammates make him a more deserving POY?

wade, i like bilas overall, i just think he fawns over psycho t a little too much

reinko

I would make the arguement that K-State was an NIT team, but committee let them slide in for Mayo vs. Beasley

Alright, fair enough, I can agree to that.  I'll even say that every time UNC plays on national television (which is quite a bit) the camera and stories are always on him and it gets to be a bit too much at times, but can you blame him?  It's not his choice.

couple years ago when it was Adam Morrison v JJ Redick... Morrison was the better player, Redick got it because he played in the ACC and ESPN pumped him up, happens more then just this year...

and to anyone who doesn't think Hansborough flops a lot... you obviously don't watch his games... its a joke, he is a good player, but he flops like no tomorrow, and what is up with the arm waiving after every shot he takes, gimme a break... players I would rather see in a MU jersey right now.

Kevin Love
Brook Lopez
Derrick Rose
Michael Beasley
Scott Padgett
Stephen Curry
Joey Dorsey

plus more

Hansborough I think is created by the media, and he wears the UNC across the chest so he gets the calls, a blind man sees that.

Check out his numbers - they're are sick.  I can't stand him either but if he comes back he's going to have every UNC record.  He might not be a great NBA player (Christian Laettner anyone) but his college game is great.

If Hansborough was a projected number 1 pick at 19, he would be gone after one year too.

Give me a break with this love of the game B.S..

OK, maybe he would, but most kids would hear that they aren't going to be moving up like Hansborough does and leave right away.  Hansborough would've been a late first round pick after his freshman year, and he will be a late first round pick after his senior year.  He stayed despite the fact that he won't be moving up the draft board.  That's PART of the love of the game.  The other part is not taking plays off.  Have you seen him stop working, look uninterested, etc. like Beasley, Mayo, all of them?  Does being a projected number 1 pick at 19 give you a free pass to not try then?

I think you are attempting to paint all of these guys with the same broad brush. Hansborough grew up in Carolina. I live in Carolina and the Heels are the team in the state. The Bobcats don't sell out, Duke is widly hated in state, and football takes a backseat to BBall. Hansborough is living the dream of every Carolina country boy with a hoop in the backyard. Beasley and Mayo have very different backgrounds and thus very different motivations.

Beasley and Mayo are in college because they have to be. I think it is unfair to say that they don't love the game because they aren't willing to live and die for a team and a school that, if given the option, they wouldn't be playing for.

How many of us went to college for the love of learning? How many went because that is what was necessary to get to their desired profession and income level. I knew a lot of lazy, uninterested college students that are doing pretty well for themselves now.
