Converse ad in ESPN the Mag
« on: March 15, 2008, 12:27:49 PM »
There is a sweet ad about Marquette in the ESPN the Mag's anniversary issue.  Has anyone seen this?  The background is a pic of the student section looking up from the floor to the rafters where the championship banners are showing.  I wish I could scan it, but I don't have anything to do that.  Anyways, here's the text.

In Downtown Milwaukee there's an area
that spans from 9th st on the east
to 20th st on the west
and from wells street on the north
to clybourn street on the south

In this stretch of 90 acres lies a nation,
a nation of 11,000 strong

They have their own flag.
Their own fight song.
They wear blue and gold.
They are called, the Golden Eagles.

This is what you should know
about this 127-year-old nation.

You mess with one,
you mess with them all.

Don't let the 90 acres fool you.
They span a far greater area than that.
Pride knows no boundaries.
Passion has no limits.

You'll know when you're in trouble.
You'll know when you have messed up.
Because you'll hear a chant of three words.

WE ARE MARQUETTE.

And when you hear that.

Pray.
"We need to get back to eating hamburgers."  - Buzz Williams

any ESPN insiders have access to a .pdf of the magazine. I used to have access but not anymore. Anyone have ESPN insider and able to post a .pdf of the ad?

I get ESPN the magazine, and I just looked at the ad. VERY cool! We are going to cut it out and frame it and give it to my grandfather. In the ad you can see the banners from the 1952, 70', and 77' teams as well as the student section in the Bradley Center. My grandpa played on the 52' team so he will find this very cool. I encourage anyone who doesn't get the magazine to go out and buy it. This is a very cool ad and it makes you proud to be a Marquette fan! WE ARE MARQUETTE!

I just checked at the store for it but the old issue is out still with a March 10 date.  I'd assume this means the new issue hits shelves March 17th a.k.a. Monday.

In post reply, click on "Additional Options" and then upload the file extension.  It should then just show up as an attachment to your post.

I'm disappointed they didn't reference our true nickname, Warriors, in any way.

Yikes, I wish the student section was a little more full, and the main banner you could see was the 1977, and 2003 rather than the other 2 and 1977.

But you know what they say, never look a gift horse in the mouth. Great exposure for MU, Stoked with the advertisment!

The other day in one of my classes we had a guest speaker on the topic of Native American Issues.  She got on the topic of mascots and nicknames for schools, I was wearing my Marquette sweatshirt and was in the front row, however she didn't mention our nickname change.  I was trying to find a way to explain a school's point of view, of it not being a mockery, but a tradition and showing respect, but I just kept my mouth shut.  Being so young and not really in the Warrior era, didn't have much ammunition.

I got the magazine yesterday and the student section is full in the photo, its just hard to see in the .jpeg because there are a bunch of people wearing blue in the upper deck.
