game will be our demise. Inconsistent shooting and the lack of a  credible inside scoring presence will make it very difficult for MU. The NCAA tourney becomes a half court game, and that is where we realy struggle.

Well, the demise comes to 64 teams, only one doesn't go down.

Where are you picking our demise to happen?

Hmmm ok.  That type of statement is just way too generic.  I really don't see the difference between the conference games and NCAA.  But I'll play along with that statement. The heart of this team comes through probably more in a half court game.  The intensity really picked up on the defensive end which forces stops and turnovers which leads to fast breaks and easy buckets.   Yes our lack of credible inside scoring presence is a problem and we probably won't win the national title or make a final four run.  Inconsistent shooting plagues lots of teams including those that will be seeded a lot higher than us.

All I am saying is the NCAA's are typically half court games. We are not that type of team and I suspect we will struggle again, as we have the last two years. thats all.

Saying NCAA tourney games are "half-court games" is a pretty sweeping, and not really accurate, generalization.
Illinois went to the finals a couple years back with a style very similar to Marquette's.
The Arizona team that won it with Miles Simon, Mike Bibby and Jason Terry wasn't a half-court team.
Same for the Arkansas "Forty Minutes of Hell" teams and the UNLV teams under Tarkanian. The Georgia Tech team in the finals in 2004 was as guard- and perimeter-oriented as this MU team.
This MU team isn't as talented as those teams, so they're unlikely to get the same results. But there's nothing inherent in MU's playing style that prevents/lessens the chances of tourney success.

I'd agree with you if you argued that MU could be in trouble if an opponent forces them into a half-court game. But that only means that it will be key for MU, as it has been all season, to dictate tempo and impose their playing style on the game.

Generally speaking I concur but it's not that simple.  Plenty of teams have done extremely well that are not traditional "half court" teams over the years in the tournament.  If we play a team that zones with a dominant center, yeah we're going to have trouble.

Frozen Caveman Coach

I think the original statement is more applicable to the NBA playoffs vs the NCAA tourney.  If the 1/2 court game is so important, chalk up WI to cut down the nets in San Anotonio.  It is the teams that dictates the pace, hits 3s and FTs that usually prevail.

Our demise comes when we run into an athletic power forward. That seems to be the position we have the most trouble with.

yeah we have problems with big guys, but teams from other conferences are not built to handle teams like us.  We have to worry about bigs, however a team with bigs needs the guards to cover us, and not many do.  Our weakness turns into a strength, and I think this team can go far, and I am trying not to be a homer.
