Hayward, James, McNeal on second team

Sophomore forward Lazar Hayward and junior guards Dominic James and Jerel McNeal were named second team all-Big East on Monday.

Hayward is a newcomer to such awards, while James and McNeal both earned first team nods last season.

MU joined Connecticut as the two teams to place three players on either the first or second teams.

Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and the league's other individual awards will be announced on Tuesday in New York.

Wow...good for Lazar. Sounds to me like that's a nice payoff for a lot of hardwork.

I'm assuming that's somewhat of a disappointment for the other two, but I think it's legitimate.

Wow, I'm shocked that DJ didn't make first team.  IMO, he got screwed as I'd much rather have DJ than Macalarney, Vaughn or Laing. 

I wonder if Wes is upset Lazar got 2nd team and Wes didn't even get honorable mention.  I'd be happier for Lazar if he didn't play so poorly the past 2 conference games.

I'm very suprised Wes didn't even get honorable mention.  He had some big games for us, especially USF and Gtown, not to mention he's a great defender.

Does anyone know why they have 11 on the 1st team and 10 on the 2nd team? 

As it turns out, 32.5% of the BE's starters were honored not counting the All-Rookies).  That's an average of 1.625 per team.  Wes hadta be pretty close to being that 26th guy.

Looking at those lists, a couple of thoughts came across...

1. Man, the Big East returns like 90% of its good players next year.  I thought we would have most of our good players back but I didn't realize nearly every other team will as well

2. We have no one on the All Newcomers Team.  Not good.  I think to compete in this league, you need one EVERY year.  I understand Mbakwe MAY have made it had he played a whole year, nevertheless, we had no one. Williams and/or Taylor had better make the list next year or the future may be tough on us.

Ahhh no, I'd rather have a Gaurd that shoots 46% from 3(McLarney) and the big east's leading scorer(Laing).
