you can add UL, UCONN to that mix.

You know something?  I'm not a big Boeheim fan.  For many years, his teams were major disappointments in the Tourney.  He always seemed to have the talent, and made the tourney repeatedly, but disappointed more often then not.  Carmelo won it for him when he finallt broke through.  John Thompson "owned" him for years.  Any one have his record in the big dance before Carmelo - and frankly since the what has he done?

augoman

agree w/ scooter re Boeheim, but at least he's smart enough to sit back in a zone and completely befuddle Crean.

scooter

so that makes him smarter than Crean  ;), but does that make him a HOF coach?

Mr. Hayward is spot on. This was a biggest sure loss on our schedule. It's a terrible match up for us, which is why I don't find it that upsetting.

It's going to be all about who we match up with in the tourney. I wouldn't be shocked to see us lose early in the BET and then win one or two in the big tourney, especially if we play teams that don't know how to play a zone.

I agree with Scooter.  Since Syracuse won with Carmelo, I think the only time they've made the tourney is when they won the BE title and then they lost to Vermont in the first round.  While I'm not happy with Crean right now, I'd take a bunch of coaches before I'd take whiny old Boeheim.

So we went to the Final Four with Wade, and Boeheim won it with Carmelo.  Since then Crean is better than Boeheim - except today of course.

This is why I sometimes think all the superlatives that are thrown around following one game, or one season, or one tournament performance have to be taken with a grain of salt.

Statistics and facts can be quoted or selectively construed to prove any side of an argument.  Is Crean better than Boeheim or vise versa? - you can make any argument you wish depending on the criteria you choose to include or exclude.

MR.HAYWARD

I am not saying anything about 1 single game.  Simply making the point that 1. boeheim is better than Crean.  2.  We struggle against zones.  3. They have bigs that destroy ours.  Put those three thing together and Syracuse ,I believe, will own Marquette over the years, as they have already

LOL! Hilarious!

Nice Crean sig by the way!  ;D

For anyone who debates Boeheim's merits as a HOFer, muse these facts:

- Boeheim has guided the Syracuse Orangemen (known as the Orange since 2004) to three NCAA championship game appearances. The Orange defeated Kansas in 2003 for the national title after losing to Indiana in 1987 and Kentucky in 1996.
(Our own beloved AL got there twice.)

- In his thirty-one years as head coach at Syracuse, Boeheim has guided the Orange to postseason berths, either in the NCAA or NIT tournaments, in all but one of his seasons, 1992-93. And that was due to NCAA violations.

- He's made the NCAA Sweet 16 eight times and Final Four four times. People slight Tom Crean for not getting out of the first round, but you can't say that about Boeheim: in 20 of his 25 NCAA appearances, the Cuse got past the first round. However, two of those five exits were within the past 5 years.

- During his tenure (31 years), the Orange have NEVER had a losing season. Closest they came was a 16-13 season in 1981-82.

- Boeheim has also been named three-time Big East coach of the year, and has been awarded ten times as District II Coach of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
