Is it just me or was that game awful?  It was one of the worst executed games I've seen from MU this year.  Far, far too many turnovers - many unforced like the crappy passes into a mass of 4 bodies in the lane, hoping that Ooze is the one who picks it up.  And to not be able to put up 70 against FGCU (I don't mean to be rude to them, but they're new to D1 and DePaul put up 90 on them!) was sad.

I don't want to put too much stock in the game because I know that it's not going to be indicative of the rest of the season.  I just didn't like seeing the headlines "MU stomped FGCU" when they very much did not play a great game last night.  Sorry to whine about a win.

Let's beat Syracuse now!

FGCU spread the floor and slowed the game.  We won by 30, nobody got hurt, Trend made Sportcenter again.    Life is good, get ready for Saturday.

We can't help it - we have to play down to the level of our competition.  In the end it would have been a massive blow out if we did not have the lazy/stupid turnovers.

Thomas' Danish Delight

Did you guys see towards the beginning of the game when that Chewbacca lookin hippie crossed James up, stepped back and drained a three?

Yeah...def shudn't happen.

jaybilaswho?

i dont care how deflating the loss was to GT. I dont care how angry the players were coming out of saturdays game. It still has got to be difficult for the players to go out there and truly play the game they can play, when the opponent is FGCU. I am sure that every player had this game chalked up as an instant win. When you start to look past teams like this... you dont play to your full potential.

I want Trend back... and I am sure Sportscenter would also like him to stay.

I'm guessing there was zero tactical preparation put into this game, and we were already starting to gear up for Syracuse in practice.  Crean probably just told them to go out and have fun in this game, knowing that even with an absolutely wretched performance by us and outstanding scheming by FGCU there was still only a 0.00001% chance we would lose the game.  It was a glorified scrimmage, and I'm glad we probably wasted no time preparing for this game.

I'm with you TJ.  The number of turnovers was shameful.

Haha.....fucking christ. The world is ending. We only had 3 points less then 70. Wah, wah, wah.  :'(

Btw, that 90 DePaul put on Gulf Coast is really working out well for them. They've won 10 games all season.

I thought this transitive scoreline crap was only used by 13 year-old dorks with acne.

Between this crap and people taking shots at our Seniors' speech, sometimes it's embarrassing to be an MU fan on these boards.

I don't think his post is overly negative or "crap."  I think he was just asking for people's opinions about last nights game.

I think the first 25 minutes of the game was "hangover" and then the rest of the game was classic Marquette.

We were only up 30-25 early in the second half.  We had turned the ball over more than 10 times already.  The only reason we even had a lead was because Lazar was on fire early in the game.  We looked bad.

After shaking out the cobwebs, I thought Marquette played pretty well.  FGC only scored 12 points the rest of the way, whereas we scored almost 40.

I'm really happy that we played FGC last night.  Can't imagine what it would have been like with that type of effort against Syracuse.

I bolded the scoreline whine and that was what I was referencing. If people are going to complain that DePaul put up 90 on GC (giving up 62) and Marquette couldn't put up 70 (giving up 37), we're bored as a fanbase. And that's embarrassing.

Yes - mostly because I didn't see any post game threads at all.  I wanted to know how the consensus felt about the game.

I am sorry about comparison to DePaul and the references to the number 70.  That was worded poorly.  What my point was supposed to be was that I was disappointed that we let FGCU control the tempo of the game and dictate our offensive output so much.  That kept our scoring way down compared to where I thought it should be against FGCU.

MU did do a good job on defense last night though, which is good.  We need to be a solid defensive team every night to compete in the coming tournaments.  They need to work on rebounding, but when 1/2 of the balls are rebounded 10+ feet from the basket, sometimes you're not going to get the breaks.

And I would never take a shot at a speech on senior night.

muwarrior87

at this point in the year, playing a team like FGCU is basically just to get the game in. We don't want any injuries and that was, I'm almost positive, Crean's main objective.  Let the seniors have some fun and get some quality minutes in their last home game.  We played a great first 5 minutes, had around 15 pts I believe, and finished the game pretty strong. I'm not going to complain about it seeing as we have 'Cuse on Saturday and I'm sure most of the team is happy with this result.

ChicosBailBonds

Ugly teams bring out usually some ugly play.  Again, this is why I'm glad we played this game after Georgetown.  If that was a Big East opponent last night, it could have been a different outcome.

The second half, after they hit the two 3 pointers to open up the half, it looked like we turned it up considerably.
