Anyone else feel just as bad as they did yesterday about letting this game slip away.

mufan924

Yup. Oh well they had been playin much better lately atleast, maybe this will fuel their fire.

Watched the end again, and it brings up more questions.  Don't even want to come to this website, puts me in a bad mood, but I can't stay away.

When I was at the game I knew that we let game slip away but I didnt realize how many breaks needed to go G-Towns way for them to win.

They needed
1.  A missed Burk Free Throw (cant blame burke he misses a alot plus it was a huge dunk he got)
2.  A Great Charge by burke that turned into a ridiculous Blocking call on him
3.  A DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB play by our leader!!!

O plus I go on the Badger site and all of the sudden

Trevon Hughes is better than James
Flowers would start on North Carolina
Butch is the 2nd coming of Walton (Only took him 5 years)
Ryan is the next Phil Jackson
Tanner Bronson is the next Rudy

Yup, I still feel your pain Nate. I was hoping to wake up this morning and read the boards and find out something strange happened and MU really won the game. >:(

It's going to take awhile to shake the effects of this one. The only solace I can take in it personally is that it wasn't a win they HAD to have to get in the NCAAs, that would've been the absolute worst way to see your bubble burst IMO. Also, I don't think it hurt them necessarily for seeding in the NCAA tournament. Since Notre Dame won today the chances of MU getting the 4th seed in the BET were moot anyway.

Just bounce back and beat Syracuse and let's see if this team can then get us to at least Friday night in the BET. I think they can and will.

I still can't shake it.  I keep going through that last 7 seconds of regulation.  GU finally gets a foul called on the guy guarding Mathews after several GU guys how fouled without getting called for it.  He steps up an hits 2 free throws to put MU up by 3 with 7 seconds left.  I mean the game was WON at that point.  9 times out of 10 we walk out of there with a win.
After that I'm not able to understand what happened.  I may need therapy to come to terms with it.
One thing though.  I'm really glad we are playing FGC Tuesday.  Originally I thought scheduling that game was stupid and might cause us to play sloppy heading into Syr and the BE tourney.  Now I think its a godsend.  A chance to erase the disappointment of this loss with a quick home win before going on the road to Syr.  I'm afraid if the team stewed on this for a whole week and then had to play a desperate Syr team it could be a real problem.

I shook it...I feel great.

Our leading scorer goes for zero points, we shoot 61% from the line and 34% from the field and we take #10 in the country to overtime playing that poorly?  On top of that I think we got jobbed hard by the officials.

Quite frankly, I feel pretty darn good that we can go toe to toe with anyone, even when we are shooting terribly.

I don't think I would want to be Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday night.

I feel the same way, I look at the score on top and then standing on left side, and it hurts. But I try to tell my self atleast we didnt lose by 20 points. and we played good, except the freethrows.  :(

Serious question for Chicos...how did the game look on TV? I swear it was the most emotional game in person since the Novak/ND game. Maybe we just haven't had that many close games at the BC, but it was really an amazing atmosphere.

I do think we played well. I was particularly happy for Burke, who played the game of his life. That guy is as tough as nails on defense.

I wish I could tell you.  I was at my son's little league game.  I came home with 2.1 seconds left and the game tied 63-63.  Then I saw the replays of the foul and went ape crazy.  I then watched OT, it was exciting but I knew when they hit that freak 3 point shot and then the goaltending garbage, we were toast.

The crowd looked very very into it.  Players seemed exhausted, G'Town looked exhausted and just thrilled they won that game.  Both teams, in the limited amount I watched, looked like they gave it everything.

Some day I'll watch the whole thing, but not now....I'll save it on the dvr.  I'm just thrilled we have a game Tuesday and pumped for this team for the next 4 weeks.  These guys need to bounce back....having Florida Gulf Coast up next actually works out terrific.  Get out of the doldrums, get back to feeling good.  Even if it's a 15 point win I'll take it, then let's see what happens against Syracuse and the remainder of the season.

Daniel

Still painful here too .  And I went to the DePaul ND game today, routing for DePaul to beat ND - and it got close at the end - very exciting, but ND won - so ugh.

It hurts to lose a game like we did to GT.  We didn't get dominated, we didn;t get whopped, we played well against them.  So we can play with the big boys - we got tough calls (BTW the same two officials I think were calling the DePaul game today - I felt like screaming at em) - we have played well since the last 10 minutes of the ND game in South Bend.

Let's keep up the intensity, and clean up our mistakes and we can play anyone.  So Tuesday - we must win and dominate.

GO MARQUETTE!!

PRN, I watched the game on tv with the local alumni group here in SoCal (along with SoCalwrrior), and you could tell both the team and the crowd were high on emotion.  For me, it seemed like we got a little deflated with about 8 to 10 mins to go.  I thought to myself, something is going to go wrong, and it did.  Did we let off the gas a little?  Seems like we had them on the run, but didn't go for the kill when we had the chance.  We let them hang around and they made the most of their opportunities.

In my 2 years here and handfuls of games beforehand, this was tops for the crowd.

I have never seen the non-students come remotely close to the enthusiasm, noise, hell even just standing they did on Saturday.
I have never ever anywhere (not just MU games) heard a place get louder during free throws. WOW.
Never heard that much sustained noise as at the end.
Never saw that much enthusiasm start to finish. Pitt last year was close but died towards the end somewhat as we pulled away. There was a short lull in the 2nd half yesterday but that was it. Incredible.
Never felt that place explode like it did after Burke's dunk. For those who were at both games, how did it compare to Novak's ND winner?

muwarrior69

Ok, nobody likes to lose; but Gtown did not beat us. What hurts is that we beat ourselves with poor free throw shooting. Every team has a day when they can hit free throws. As for the officiating ... well that's part of the game. This team will be better because of this game. They know they can beat Gtown, ND, and now with Trevor, Ooze and Burke asserting themselves we even have a shot at Louisville in the BET. As I said before this team reminds me of the Giants who had an up and down season. Not perfect, but champions.

PS: I love the Packers, but grew up as a Giant fan.... my apologies.

muarmy81

This was a tough game to give away but I'm not terribly disappointed.  Sure we didn't hit our free throws when we needed to but I really think we're a dangerous team come tourney time.  I honestly don't care about the BET, I just hope we don't get too tired or hurt anyone, and I'm looking forward to seeing us advance this year...

ATWizJr

I just hope the team gets over it faster than some of us, me included.

We spent all day driving back to Erie yesterday, so I had plenty of time to stew. There is no way in hell we should have lost, even with some of the  atrocious calls. They call the obvious travel on Gtown or the charge Burke took and we win. But you can't have DJ come within a foot on Wallace on that 3-pointer. If you're that afraid he's going to hit a miracle three, grab him at halfcourt a second earlier and make him hit two FTs. You still have the lead and the ball and there's only four seconds left.
We had Gtown fans sittting behind us and they were great. They admitted they were very lucky, remembering that banked three that turned OT around.
As for the Badgers, they would be VERY lucky to be .500 in the BE, depending on the schedule.  Gtown, Louisville, UConn, ND and us would each smoke them twice and they would likely lose at Pitt and WVU. There are only three Big Ten teams would would even stand a chance at finishing .500 here. So ignore them.

Chico has it right.  Despite shooting horrifically from the field and the line - most especially the field 35% - we were right there with a great team that knows how to win.  We should rightly feel that we can play with anyone in the country.  Another half full view, this was a good opportunity for us to compete in a close game, we haven't had many this year.

As for TV viewing, it was awesome.  You could tell that the intensity and emotion was high.  MU was making their plays, making good passes, taking good shots, they just didn't go in.  Not picking on LH, but when GT made the 8 straight after being down by 11, Lazar missed on a 3 that came after penetration and a dish back out, then missed a jumper from 12 feet and then a lay up.  All were good shots taken within an offense that was playing well.

Shots just didn't go down...
