You are correct.  I was thinking of Tony Smith because I knew I had one season of missing minutes played for him.

The same applies for Tony Miller though.  I can't calculate his career average minutes because I don't have minutes played for any of his seasons.

EDIT:  I assume this is why Marquette doesn't list any minutes categories in its record book.  Maybe I should remove it to avoid confusion.

Have you used Sports-Reference.com? There are a lot of stats there.

I've found Sports-Reference.com to be inaccurate on Marquette stats prior to the mid-90s or so.  For some seasons, they will post an image of an official Marquette season stat sheet with which their stats match.  The only problem is that stat sheet was for a game or two prior to the end of the season so their stats are missing a few games.

For this reason, I only use stats from the Marquette Media Guide, the Marquette Tribune, Marquette Hilltop Yearbook, and the Marquette Library which has several end of season stats saved.  For the post media guide seasons, I use the official season stats from gomarquette.com.

Using these sources, I've been able to find player stats for every season with the exception of twelve seasons (1933-34, 1929-30, 1927-28, 1926-27, 1925-26, 1923-24, 1922-23, 1921-22, 1920-21, 1919-20, 1917-18, and 1916-17).  Additionally, I only have season stats for eight players in the 1952-53 season.

A few years ago I reached out to Scott Kuykendall in the Athletic Department who had some stats I was missing and I had some they were missing.

At some point I'd like to do a deeper search on the Marquette Tribune to find those missing seasons.

Does the Milwaukee Library have archived box scores from the Milwaukee Sentinel and Journal?

Hmmmm I'm not sure.  That's not a bad idea.
