Brenn is on the roster at gomarquette.com. My guess is Crowdis and him aren't on scholarship.

I was going off the roster on Gomarquette.com

Again, the limit isn't 15 scholarships; it's 15 players (unless any are DSAs, in which case they don't count against the limit).

Im pretty sure Brenn is a grandfathered in walk on. I believe he'll be the last one at MU.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Yup, that's the case.

So these 15 players do not have to be offered a scholarship? Your guess is that Crowdis is paying his own Tuition and Room and Board?

15 rostered player max, with certain exceptions for grandfathered walk-ons. That's it.

Scholarships are a different conversation and do not affect the 15 player max.

No chance Crowdis is paying his own tuition this year.

My guess is that he is getting an academic scholarship, and perhaps a partial athletic one as well.

He's only a sophomore though. I thought they had to be on the roster in 2024-25. Am I mistaken?

Interesting scenario...
Aug 3: Hardwood Houdini on 2nd rd pick from StJ's Dillon Mitchell...

"if Mitchell is not pleased with the contract or situation in Boston, he can go back to school. Whether that is St. John's welcoming him back or another team giving him an NIL payday to play for them, he has options. What do the Celtics want from the situation? They will retain Mitchell's rights if he returns to school, so it would function as something of a "draft-and-stash" if he returns to college, just as international players have been "stashed" for years.

Could Boston try to get Mitchell to choose a school in the Northeast so they can keep close tabs on him? Is there a college coach running a similar system to Joe Mazzulla they can direct him toward? Can Mitchell get paid, not hit the Celtics' books, develop for another year and then join the team?

There are strong benefits to having Mitchell in their own system, but they cannot offer him the kind of money he could make in college. And leaving that roster spot open gives them options to add a veteran player, and delays The Celtics and Mitchell now have options. Sorting through them to predict what both sides will decide is a difficult proposition. As of Friday, however, the world has opened up for Dillon Mitchell."

Yes, you are mistaken. This will be his third year on the roster.

Ah OK. His class hasn't been updated on the roster yet. Thanks.

Didn't play at in 2024-25, so in old terms would be a RS So. this year. But, yeah, he was on the roster two years ago.

Walk-ons aren't the only ones "grandfathered" in.

An individual could be labeled a "DSA" (and not count against the limit) if they were or were going to be on the team in 2025-26 but, due to the roster limits, would be cut. So, an incoming kid who had signed a financial aid agreement could be a DSA. They do not count against the roster limit for the duration of their college career regardless of where they play.

Most schools followed the rules that only those who would have been cut were given the DSA label, while some (TCU, for example) gave entire rosters the DSA label.

Then it should be called the Roster Table, not the scholarship table since players could have scholarships or not.
