Quote from: Juan Anderson's Mixtape on June 17, 2026, 11:15:48 AMBased on last season's BPR, Minessale is our third best player behind Fru and James. (For those wondering, BPR is adjusted for level of competition.  It isn't inflated by playing in a small conference.)

That should equate to a day one starter, but we will see if Shaka agrees or not.  It may take a few games for Minessale to prove himself and earn that starting spot.

Yeah I'm guessing Owens gets the loyalty nod to kick off the year similar to Zaide last year (though Zaide had shown more the end of his Sophomore year to earn it imo).

If he doesn't start, I hope it's because DO earned it.  With his versatility, Minessale could be a great 6th man.

I do think it's more likely than not that he starts, though.

I was thinking of Sean starting over Nigel as a loyalty example, but this applies, too.

If we're in a position that its a tough decision that can only be good things for Marquette, Owens, Minessale.....

Interesting that of all these clips coming out, we've seen 0 of Minessale. He's the guy I thought they'd market more than anyone!

I think I read on 247 that Dom expects Owens to start at the 3. Will be interesting to see how that rounds out.
VIOLENCE!

The best thing for the team IMHO would be DO truly earning the starting 3 spot, freeing Minessale to get significant minutes playing 1, 2 and 3.

While Shaka has proven that he will "come around" and eventually go with the better player, the start of last season showed an annoying willingness to choose favored players just because.

I have serious trouble believing all of Jones, Lowery and Hamilton outperformed James, Stevens and Parham during 2025 preseason practices.

Hopefully, Shaka has gotten that out of his system.

St. Thomas' academic year goes pretty late - it ends after Marquette's first summer session even begins. So is he even on campus?

Nolan Minessale on being at Marquette and putting on the jersey, "it's been very surreal"

"We only have three guards right now".

Paraphrasing, only have three ball handlers.

At least he includes himself and Nolan in there definitively.

I hope the healthy offseason allows Damarius to take a leap and start at SF. I remember him starting the Gtown game when Royce was out and he played really more freely and confidently with the longer leash. I think Nolan coming off the bench wouldn't be a knock on him in the slightest. He is going to play spots 1-3 so he can sub in quickly for whoever picks up a foul or needs a different matchup. He should be playing 20+ minutes a night. I also think MPIII and Alex bring a similar versatility in spots 2-4.

If MU has that sort of depth with reliable contributions from those four guys, that's a ton of depth bolstering last year's starters + Fru. It also frees Royce up to play a few minutes at the 5 if needed.

The freshman will play some, Shaka likes to keep them around and not giving them playing time may lead to transferring. Shaka will give them some time muchlike Phillips last year.
