Give that announcer a raise!

.@JohnStrong called it on Fox as the England/Ghana match started...."As we know the English historically struggle here in Massachusetts."

Nice!

Almost locked into Bosnia in the R32. Next thing to watch is the group G matches on Friday, they haven't looked great but it would still be nice for Belgium to not win the group, in which case it would either be Egypt, Iran (which would be hilarious btw) or a third place finisher in the R16. Has never been a better path.

How would you compare Maradona to Messi from an overall skill standpoint?  From what I've read Diego was more electric but Lionel is far more consistent.  I didn't realize Maradona was only 5'5.

Maradona did a lot more cocaine.

Both too short to be very good at anything.

This is another unprovoked attack on our smaller citizens.

People are slipping all over the place in LA.

By most accounts this will be Team USA's best chance (maybe ever) to win a few rounds in the tournament.

That sucked.  Even though it means nothing.

Absolute gut punch, Muggs. Game started at 4am here in the Adriatic, and it was difficult to see the last touch end the fight. USA was much better in 2H, Pulisic changes the entire shape and flow of the game. I'm in the camp that it did matter to win, but I understand the black and white in me says it didn't. I'm very positive on the boys, and I think this experience pays dividends later in the tourney. Someone we don't expect will make a tourney changing play.

As an aside, Gio could never see the pitch again for country, and I wouldn't lose sleep. Also, Berhalter makes things happen. C'mon boys!

You really only need 2 or 3. Short people are pretty easy to deal with.

Zlatan and Henry made great points after the match.  They said the most important outcome of the US match was "MINUTES".  Minutes for backups, for the rusty/lower performing guys, for different formations.  Be competitive, no injuries, no yellows for anyone carrying and yellow, and look to Bosnia.  And that's what they did.  The backups (for the most part) were competitive and not overmatched against a Turkey squad of guys playing for Juventus, Real Madrid, Roma and Dortmund, plus a bunch from Champions League tested and experienced Galatasary side.  The final goal sucked because of 3-4 glaring errors in the final sequence, but shouldn't impact any feelings about the performance or the goal of the match.

I'm really conflicted with Berhalter.  He's better than I thought he was 6-12 months ago, but he's still very inconsistent and not there yet.  Outside of his assist, he was pretty terrible in the first half.  Better in the second half, but still inconsistent.  He's nowhere near pushing for big minutes, but he is very good dead ball and occasional crosses, so he looks better than he is.  He's terrible tracking back defensively and struggles in possession.

I think the Derby move will be very good for him as he gets seasoning in a tougher league.

I've really enjoyed the podcast with Arena, Bradley and Berhalter

Poch is absolutely right to be annoyed with the American press. The outcome of last night's game was meaningless. Small time thinking by the journalists in that room.

Does the plan include deporting the littles and letting the Haitians stay?

Man the Asian teams really sucked. Nine teams qualified but seven eliminated in the group stage. Six didn't even win a game. And these were the legit best teams from Asia. There wasn't some powerhouse that didn't qualify.

Africa had ten teams qualify with only Tunisia not making the knockouts. And Nigeria and Cameroon didn't even make the tournament.
