1. The ref who was asked insisted he did.

2. More importantly ... it is not the job of the on-court officials to know which teams have how many time-outs or which players have how many fouls. That is why each team has people whose specific job it is to keep their coach informed on such details. This was a coaching failure.

Quite a few folks on the Liberty disagree.

"This is not blaming the refs, but when I ask both refs if we have a reset timeout at the end, and they tell us no, and then we leave the game with the reset timeout, it's pretty frustrating," Stewart said.

When asked whether he was unaware if the team had its reset timeout, Liberty coach Chris DeMarco responded, "Yeah, same thing. They just said we didn't have it. Multiple staff members [were told]. It is what it is. We've got to demand more. But it is what it is."

I ain't got a dog in this fight, and I certainty wasn't there to hear who said what, but given how bad the refs are in the WNBA

Quote from: MU82 on October 02, 2026, 05:03:55 PMThe WNBA is an atrociously officiated league. I'm not sure how they fix that, but they need to.

I would probably err on the side of the Liberty in this case.

So every Liberty staff member who queried officials at the scorer's table were told that they did not have the time-out? That is very difficult to believe, but maybe.

Either way, the Liberty didn't play well enough to win, despite facing an Atlanta team that was playing without its top scorer, so not an ounce of sympathy for them. But that's still very difficult to believe.

Great work by the Dream and Valkyries to win in sweeps. Great performances by both teams against worthy opponents. I was especially impressed with Kiah Stokes' defense vs A'ja, and with Jordin Canada's energy and execution.

WNBA Finals don't start till next Saturday. Seems crazy that the league will go dark for 7 days at the pinnacle of its season, but it's probably a TV-forced situation.
