Not only that, but the entire point of this board is to talk about Marquette basketball. You can't really do that without having conversations about the players and their performance.

Not that it's ok to trash players as nauseam but there's a lot of nuance you're leaving out here.

At a high major program like Marquette you're a public figure who is now getting paid to perform well as the primary marketing and fundraising channel for our university. Not even mentioning the full ride that many of us took out loans for and are paying off for year. Given it's widely accepted that public figures are open for criticism (politicians, musicians, actors, athletes) then within our Marquette community these celebrities are certainly open for criticism.

Meanwhile, we're fans and even stakeholders of Marquette. Marquette's performance could theoretically lead to a higher tier of student applying (iirc correctly there's a direct correlation between application increases and a final four) and therefore a higher perception of the degree. Ignoring all fandom, having an MU degree that increases in value due to on court success means we are invested in the players performing well. If they aren't performing it's fair to call that out. Meanwhile, we as plebeians who maybe represent maybe 1/20 Marquette alumni a person will come across throughout their life don't have the same pressure to succeed as representatives of the university.

Can only speak for myself, but I have no problem with Scoopers criticizing anything and everything. However ...

It does get tiring to read the same exact criticisms from the same exact posters over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. We get it ... last season was historically bad, Caedin shouldn't even be on a D3 roster, and Shaka should be on the hot seat soon (if not already). Duly effen noted!

Then again ... nobody is forcing any of us (including me) to read those posts, so whatevs. Carry on, my wayward sons.

Add "and same exact defenses" after the bolded and then I agree with what you are saying. How many times did we hear "one bad season" over and over and over again, and how many times did we get lectured about Shaka's success in the first 3 1/2 or 4 years (another dispute that was argued over and over and over again) as a counterbalance to explaining this past season?

We should focus on more timely and less exhausted topics, like bringing back football, the team's mascot and Wojo.

I think it's princess Diana's fault that the paparazzi harrassed her since she chose to be such a public figure.  She deserved it because of her position.

Shoot, I forgot what we were discussing here.  I was going to say something about revealing character in HOW you criticize people... publicly or privately.  But I got off track somehow and ended up with a random thought about princess Dianna.

Anyway, I think MUBB is going to be GREAT next year!
