Quote from: wadesworld on October 30, 2026, 01:42:02 PMI deserve all of the shade thrown my way.  I did not believe anyone would or could beat the Dodgers this year.  Which has made this all the more fun.

I have never hated on Attanasio, how the Brewers are run, or how they play.  I said many times that if this iteration of the Dodgers wasn't around I'd believe the Brewers were a real World Series contender.  Turns out that even with the Dodgers they were legitimately the best team in baseball.  But I've always laughed at those who hate on Attanasio.  He's at a ton of games.  He does everything he can to win baseball games.

Even if the Dodgers had beaten the Brewers this year, I would've been proud to be a Brewers fan.  They've been a fun team to root for and are well run and well managed.

Probably worth it to be proven wrong and be homeless to see your team win it all.

One of the prospects the Brewers sent to the Marlins in 2018 in the Yeli trade is now a 31 year old junior on Arkansas's football team lol.

The parade replay stuff I saw was very cool.  It looked like at least 500K+ people.  The Brewers players that are getting the most accolades are well deserved, but my take is Gasser and Turang probably deserve bigger props.  The defense I saw from Turang was noticeably excellent, and he had timely hits as well.  Not only does he cover a tremendous amount of ground, but his relaxed zip throws were on target and extremely impressive.  And we saw a bunch of guys struggle in the field for both WS teams.

Everyone I saw those buses in a pic from a distance it looked like the signs said WGN, so I must have known they were from Chicago on some level. I would love to see one downtown.

Gold Gloves were awarded yesterday. Voting is done by managers and coaches (75 percent of the vote), with the other 25 percent determined by the SABR Defensive Index.

According to that index, the most valuable defensive player in the NL - get ready to faint! - was not PCA. It was Brice Turang of your World Series champion Brewers. And three AL players, including two outfielders, also had higher ratings than PCA, meaning the fix obviously was in. Here were the top five overall:

1. Cody Bellinger, NYY OF (13.8)

2. Brice Turang, Mil 2B (12.8)

3. Ceddanne Rafaela, Bos OF (12.0)

4. Dillon Dingler, Det C (11.4)

5. (Tie) Pete Crow-Armstrong, CHC OF (11.3)

5. (Tie) Wilyer Abreu, Bos OF (11.3)

Turang certainly backed it up in the playoffs, he was absolutely exceptional in the field, especially in the World Series.

I played 2nd base the majority of my LL/HS career and had a baseball coach in HS, a former minor leaguer tell me, "2nd base is the most underappreciated fielding position in baseball...

"To many, you're making short throws, not fielding bunts, etc...  But every mistake you make looks twice as bad as a SS/3B, your hard throws against your body look easy compared to a long throw deep in the other side of the infield (until they aren't), and you still need to cover first."

Naturally I've always really enjoyed watching guys like Hoerner and Turang who do it really well and somehow make it look simple and almost easy.  And why Sandberg was my first favorite player as a kid

This will either be a surprising success story or a spectacular dumpster fire ...

After a monthlong search, the Mariners have again settled on a first-time manager to succeed Dan Wilson in the dugout.

And Jason Kanzler, a former high-school science teacher, qualifies as the most surprising choice yet for Jerry Dipoto's front office.

The Mariners are hiring Kanzler, a relatively unknown 36-year-old who has never managed at any level of affiliated baseball, as the franchise's 22nd full-time field manager, industry sources confirmed Tuesday morning.

The Mariners formally announced the hiring soon after.

"Our goal in this process was finding a manager with the ability to challenge all of us to improve," Dipoto said in a statement. "Jason has the mindset, expertise, communication skills, and intensity to help create a championship standard here in Seattle."

Kanzler has served as the Chicago Cubs' director of player development since January 2024, building a reputation as a good communicator with an aptitude for advanced metrics.

Before joining the Cubs, Kanzler spent five years in the Houston Astros organization, starting as a minor-league instructor and working his way up to the major-league coaching staff during the Astros' 2022 championship season.

Quite an outside-the-box choice. For the M's sake, I hope it works out better than the last year's outside-the-box hire by the Giants.

I notice when the Mariners lauded his skills and abilities that being a teacher of baseball was not mentioned.

Kinda sounds like the front office wants to manage the team.

There have been many reports/rumors about that being the case during the previous manager's tenure. I am not close enough to the situation to know the veracity of the reports/rumors, but given some of the decisions I wouldn't be surprised.
