We have a psychotic paranoid running the country and our press treats it as just another day.

This is what America voted for.

Ignorance is a choice and we've been choosing it for a long time.  It will only get worse.

When they say it can't happen in America, they are wrong because we are a proudly and profoundly stupid people.

Quote from: Uncle Rico on May 12, 2026, 06:02:36 AMWhy would Europe trust the American populace not to elect another reality TV star who bankrupts his businesses because we need a "businessman" to run this country (code for "we like his racist policies)?

It's not that easy in geopolitics.  The Middle East relationships are the next on the chopping block.  Our brazen attack on Iran has strained those and our lack of communication and respect of the positions we've put them in will haunt us for decades.

There is no reason for any nation in this world to trust America any longer.  Our populations arrogance and ignorance has been magnified to such a degree, that's who we are to them.

Because everything is short-term. From 2017-20, Europe couldn't trust The Worst President Ever. Then Biden earned back their trust. TWPE is tearing it down again. The next president could restore it ... or make it worse.

well, there's that redistricting thing.

In Indiana 5 Trump backed primary challengers won. The commercials were BRUTAL against those who dared not back Dear Leader's redistricting scheme.

The amount of racism in the open in America at the moment is part of who we are and part of this war being an abject failure with Americans.  Play the hits to rally the base and ignore the colossal failure of their policies internationally.

I don't think it is stupidity per se, though you may be using that term to encompass a lot more than intelligence.

Starting with Ronnie Raygun and running through Michael Douglas' "Greed is Good" mantra in Wallstreet, to Gingrich's Contract on America, to Murdoch's gaslighting of the nation, all the way to present day fascist techbros, I think society as a whole decided being ethical, responsible citizens is for suckers.

Vast sums of money are the only thing that matters, and lying, cheating, and stealing is perfectly fine in pursuit of those piles of cash. Thus, we've ultimately ended up electing a leader that perfectly embodies those values or lack thereof.

Pretty much the opposite of what Marquette tried to teach us.

I am using that term to describe the average voters values.

A social contract is an anathema to them.  The idea of lifting one another up is beneath them and only understand punishing those not like them.  It's part jealousy and fear.

You appeal to these people by preying on that fear and their ignorance.  We're attacking educational institutions and science because it exposes our ignorance.  Think of what we're doing nationally.  It's embarrassing how we attack education and science.

The wildest part are citizens in rural America supporting this.  They're the ones hurt most by what we are doing as a nation but just don't see it or refuse to.

Well, this sucks ...

The Trump administration's public portrayal of a shattered Iranian military is sharply at odds with what U.S. intelligence agencies are telling policymakers behind closed doors, according to classified assessments from early this month that show Iran has regained access to most of its missile sites, launchers and underground facilities.

Most alarming to some senior officials is evidence that Iran has restored operational access to 30 of the 33 missile sites it maintains along the Strait of Hormuz, which could threaten American warships and oil tankers transiting the narrow waterway.

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/05/12/us/politics/iran-missiles-us-intelligence.html?

People with knowledge of the assessments said they show — to varying degrees, depending on the level of damage incurred at the different sites — that the Iranians can use mobile launchers that are inside the sites to move missiles to other locations. In some cases they can launch missiles directly from launchpads that are part of the facilities. Only three of the missile sites along the strait remain totally inaccessible, according to the assessments.

Iran still fields about 70 percent of its mobile launchers across the country and has retained roughly 70 percent of its prewar missile stockpile, according to the assessments. That stockpile encompasses both ballistic missiles, which can target other nations in the region, and a smaller supply of cruise missiles, which can be used against shorter-range targets on land or at sea.

Military intelligence agencies have also reported, based on information from multiple collection streams including satellite imagery and other surveillance technologies, that Iran has regained access to roughly 90 percent of its underground missile storage and launch facilities nationwide, which are now assessed to be "partially or fully operational," the people with knowledge of the assessments said.

The findings undercut months of public assurances from President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who have told Americans that the Iranian military was "decimated" and "no longer" a threat.

I really wish we were winning. But even at $1B a day, and even with the collective brainpower of Capt. Bone Spur and Weekend Host Kegger leading America's charge, we are not.
