I mean, it would be unusual for a program like LSU to hire a coach and then keep it secret for a couple of days, but I guess it's possible.

I have no idea why you believe this is an urban legend.

Regardless, my point is that the official announcement date isn't really meaningful information here - it makes perfect sense that Johnson and LSU could have been negotiating details, as Marquette was with Buzz, when Bennett reached back to Marquette.

Actually, first choice was Bo Ryan.  They knew he'd say no, but you gotta at least make the phone call and have him say no.
