Quote from: Pakuni on April 06, 2026, 03:14:59 PMI don't know about that. By and large, the programs contending for Final 4s and titles today are basically the same that were contending for Final 4s and titles 10, 20, 30 years ago.
I know Michigan isn't historically considered a blueblood, but this is their third Final Four since 2013. And they had a run of three in five years in the late 80s/early 90s.
There hasn't really been an Indiana football of college basketball yet.

Quote from: MuggsyB on April 06, 2026, 03:12:40 PMFair point but I don't really see the guy as a college coach.  I could be wrong though.

Basketball is basketball.  If he can focus on the coaching part of it and attract good players, that takes care of a lot of it.

This isn't Belichick whose best days were behind him.

I get the hesitation and it could fail but I'm betting it's more likely he finds some success.  He'll have to adapt his personal skills from what it sounds like.  I think that's more of a concern.

Dusty May takes the Dallas Mavericks job.

QuoteMay's departure means that Michigan's players can explore their future options, as under NCAA rules a 15-day transfer window will open five days after a new head coach is hired or publicly announced.

That's gotta help our chances to land Devin Cleveland.

And our chances at their place next season.

What if.....Josh Shertz to UofM, St. Louis players can enter the portal, Sheek comes home
Bring back FFP!!!

Uncle Rico

Michigan should hire Gard.  He gets it done.

I wouldn't want Sheek back considering the circumstances of his departure. Let him stay at SLU

Wow. Didn't see that one coming.

There's more roster stability in the pros than in college these days.

Can't imagine there's much of anything about coaching in the pros that isn't better than coaching in college these days.

wadesworld

Yeah I would've been more surprised if Dusty didn't coach in the NBA at some point in the next couple years.  Surprising it's this late into the coaching carousel cycle, though.

That's always risky.  Obviously they may miss out on some candidates based on the timing of all of this, but I'd put some calls out on top candidates first before going with an interim for a year.  Let's say Boynton keeps the roster largely in tact.  Now you have a stacked roster that was built with Dusty as the head coach.  If they make another Final Four run, how do you not give Boynton the full time job at that point?  And is he going to be able to keep that level of program going?

Obviously if you made calls to high level candidates and you're quickly getting no's, then making Boyton an interim would make sense.

I wonder if this is "interim" until they can hire a new coach, or if it's through the upcoming season. Our game in Ann Arbor just got more interesting.

The timing may be surprising, but May made several comments in the days and weeks after winning the championship game that he hadn't been able to enjoy it because he immediately had to launch into building a roster for next season, including players from the transfer portal and retaining current players.

He can't be blamed for thinking that a pro job involves more actual basketball coaching.

Schertz leaves for Michigan, leaving SLU's players open to a change of scenery.

Sheek, seeing the error of his ways, jumps ship.

Marquette, with roughly 10 minutes at the center position and 8 minutes at PF, lands him.

Sheek left.  He gowne.  Best of luck to him.  Or not, doesn't really make a difference to me.

And Michigan named an interim head coach.  Seems as though they'll take the year to evaluate things.

TallTitan34

Unless they pull Sheek's $2M, I don't see why he would want to return even with a coaching change.
