I have a feeling this thread may not last too long since Georgetown game is tomorrow, but I had an email exchange at work that prompted this.

My buddy lives in Milwaukee still (I don't) and his daughter goes to UW.  We chatted a little about last night's MSU @ UW game and I told him I was pulling for MSU.  Then we got into "boring" wisconsin, they get the calls in the Kohl Center, they whine when they don't get a call, etc. etc.  So he said "Okay Mr. 21st in the country"

So I argued RPI and SOS etc,  MU is ranked lower by I think 3 or 4 places in RPI, but our SOS is 24 to their 30 something.  I said - for example - we play Georgeown tomorrow and they play Northwestern to give you an idea of the strength of the BE vs. the Big Ten.

I said the best gauge is head to head and we beat them at their house where they are "invincible."

So how does everyone think we  will fare in the tourney vs. how they will fare?  If they play up to their potential and we play up to ours - every game - how far can each team go realistically?

🏀

If both teams are playing like it's their best game of the year:

Wisconsin- Sweet 16. If their big men are playing like no tomorrow, and the guard play is above average. They could make the Sweet 16.

Marquette- Elite 8. Ooze has to have a double-double every game. DJ plays smart.  We are hitting threes and mid-range jumpers.

romey

funny you say that because I told my buddy whatever round UW gets to, we'll be one better.

They discussed this yesterday during the game...that Bo thought this year's squad is actually a better "team" than last year's.  They had one turnover yesterday...I cannot remember a game where that happened.

This may sound a bit off...but they are a team with no real weaknesses, but they really don't have strengths either...especially in terms of match-ups (yeah, Butch can step out and hit a trey).  They play well within themselves...but if they are extended...i.e., like the quick perimeter play MU and Duke threw at them, they will have a lot of trouble.  Yes, they are dominating the Big 10...that's because every team plays their style of play but they just do it better.    Because they are so disciplined, they can also beat an undisciplined team like a Texas...but I think a big team like GU would give them troubles.  They are as apt to exit early as to go to the Elite 8.

That said, MU owned every minute of our game against them.

MU is better

We won at their place remember

But UW fan would say "Well we were not playing our best yet"

But somehow a week later UW beat Texas.

What possibly could have happened during that week that made Wisconsin a million times better.

O yea I am back on the MU bandwagon as of Monday because we got our first big road win of the season I am always negative about the team until we get a big road win!!

UW-madison is solid team, but I think they struggle with athletic teams at guard.  I think they were lucky as hell to win at Indiana and Texas....both winning shots at the end of the game that really were amazing.

They got beat by us and pounded by Duke, both good guard oriented teams.

As for which team is better...hard to say.  They are both very close in the computer rankings, though we have played a tougher schedule and could be a bit more battle tested.

I like the fact we play very tough teams most of the time, not sure the Big Ten this year has them having to sweat it out very much other than Indiana and Purdue.

To be honest If their was a one seed that I would love to play it would be Texas
we match up great against them

I agree.  I also hope like hell we're in Butler's bracket because they will have a high seed and they are so overrated in my opinion.

MUDPT

I said Purdue is a young version of MU, except MU has a couple of true point guards and Purdue might get more scoring out of their front court.  Teams with athletic guards will always give UW fits.  We would beat them 8 out of 10 times on a neutral court.

in the tourney will determine how far teams like UW and Georgetown advance. Their style of ball will either take them far or yield a quick exit.

Funny, this just happpens to be the jsonline poll question of the day...

At this time UW-Madison is ahead 66% to 33%.  VOTE NOW

In my opinion, MUDPT has is right:  MU would win about 8 out of 10 times on a neutral court, because the BADgers can't handle our guard depth and quickness.

Seriously, who cares about a December basketball game?

We have a March game today that matters.

MU needs to win two of the next three games

That's why I said in my initial post that I didn't think this thread will last long - big game today.  But it was fun!

Badgers are boring whiners and the Wisconsin media LOVES them.  That's why I want to see them fail this year - and see how the media handles it when they finally have to admit MU is better - or will they ever admit it?

Big Papi

MU beat UW at UW.  Advantage MU.  Furthermore I think you need to play tough games during the year to win in March.  Big East easily over Big Ten.  So advantage MU.

I don't care how UW wants to try to rationalize how they are a better team.  They are wrong as usual.
