This team plays wayyyyy too fast for their skill level. It worked with Kolek or kam running the show, but this team does not protect the ball like past teams. Self inflicted punishment playing at the pace they're currently operating at.

AlumKCof93

A team that can't shoot 3s
A team that has no post game
A team that plays poor defense

Is not a team that is set for success.

We could see this coming last year, but hoped player development would occur. It has not.  It's a lost year, likely two.

Shaka needs to re-evaluate.

Total ineptitude.

And if he doesn't want to do transfers, then he can't do this. Freaking Dayton?

Quote from: Farley36 on Today at 09:15:07 PMAgain, none of you saw this coming?  Was easy to see that the talent leaving was far superior to the talent coming in.  Shaka's inability to adapt to the modern landscape of college basketball is a disaster.

A lot of people did.

Vander Blue Man Group

Quote from: Elonsmusk on Today at 09:16:23 PMMostly agree...except Nigel James showed up big time.  Chase faded as the game went on.  Zaide seemed like he wasn't locked in.

Shaka has never had a team of his be outside the Top 50 in Ken Pom D - it's astounding how much this team is struggling defensively.

Nigel had some really nice moments but I can't say he played well. He's a freshman and there's a lot on his shoulders so his struggles didn't bother me.

To his credit, he's aggressive and doesn't play scared. He's going to be a really good one.

Haven't seen this level of incompetence since 87-88.  Worse than the fact they are physically limited I think the mental limitations are even worse.  Bad combination.  Will be lucky to be  even close to .500 in the Big East.

It's the type of team that casual MU fans will stop watching and going to games.

My wife had a comment that made me chuckle tonight. She said "We're bad at 3's, ... and
2's, and 1's.

Agree with this analysis.

GoldenWarrior11

Bluntly, there is very little high level talent on the roster.

There is no interior post presence.  There are no outside shooters.  There is no experienced guard play to facilitate and/or protect the ball.  There is no defense.

If next year's team is to once again compete for an NCAAT appearance, half of the projected returning roster needs to be replaced.  There's several players that would be best served going down a level or two.

This is going to be a long year, reminiscent of 2014-15.

Quote from: Pakuni on Today at 09:08:13 PMThe good news is they'll improve. The bad news is so will everyone else.

Isn't a supposed major advantage of RGV continuity and cohesiveness?

RGV, culture, EGG, EKG, KGB, PSA, whatever.....too many mottos.  I just would like to see players who can make a basket for Shaka's live or die by three, not see them potentialy grow, maybe develop.

"Sit back and watch growth and development", "patience, tournament team"

Heck others have said Shaka is "God"

This is Shaka's team, his recruits and roster construction.  His culture talk has been consistent, he even mentioned it in press conference after Maryland loss. Maybe he is just afraid to hurt players feelings if they do not meet expectations.  It's early in season but almost every game has been difficult. Oklahoma at neutral site, at Wisconsin and at Purdue, it could move from difficult to watch to unbearable. I really hope not, but too many issues to correct.

Get clobbered by Indiana, lose at home to a depleted Maryland team and then Dayton at home, who had 25 turnovers and still won. Shaka has his hands full.

Class71

Another predictable result. How long will it take for this coach to see his mistakes? Does it take years? Possibly.

Well, he did only play 9 today.  If Owens hadn't gotten 3 minutes, it would be 8.

Warrior of Law

I do think this team can finish 11th in the Big East. Anything over 9th place would be huge success. The team just sucks. I wouldn't spend a nickel on anyone but James. The rest can go to the Patriot/Horizon league.

Already canceled the plans for next Friday.

Quote from: Spencer Pratt on Today at 09:11:29 PMThis roster makeup is just inherently flawed.  Need a big who you can run offense through at high post to settle down possessions.  Caden ain't it.  Thought Royce maybe could be that guy, but he has not developed into that role yet.  Also need shooters to spread floor.  We don't have any pure shooters and makes our offense look bunched together and out of control.

Yep. Watched the Arizona-UCONN game. They are light years better than Marquette. We have not even played a really
good team yet. This is setting up to be a  bad year.

And this is how Shaka wants them to play. They're playing how they're being coached. And it's painfully obvious they can't do it.
