Quote from: MuggsyB on July 01, 2026, 02:04:38 PMIt seems like the Lakers gave up a ton to get Kessler.

You can get a handle of Kessler for like $14.99 at Woodman's
It's only a few pennies

Jaylen getting traded for Paul George and stuff is one of the funnier trades I've seen in a long time. But at least Boston got to keep Hugo Gonzalez

Wow. The Celtics clearly mis-read the market for Brown. What a mistake to not land Giannis instead.

Celtics fans looking at the Lakers roster with intense jealousy and now this trade?  Rough times in Beantown

this just goes to show how badly the Celts wanted to get rid of Brown. Wow!

Maybe Brad Stevens is getting ready to come back to college. Perhaps Michigan made a call?

Even traded him to a division rival.

A real head-scratcher.

This is stunning to me when you compare the "hauls" many other players have gotten.  WTF are the Celtics thinking?   Paul George and draft picks?  It honestly looks like a salary dump.  If I was Brad Srevens I would have not traded him and dealt with the possible tantrums and lockeroom unrest.  Clearly teams did not want to take on Brown's salary.

Bucks should've given them Herro, 2 firsts, and 2 swaps just for fun.

Hugo and Scheyerman being the line between PG or GA is hilarious. Those guys are trash.

JWags85

Missing out on Giannis and other trades due to an unwillingness to part with f-ing Hugo Gonzalez or Scheierman.

Trading Brown to one of your biggest rivals in the East for a geriatric Paul George, now made of paper mache, and some likely non lottery-first round picks.

Now this tidbit...

Did Brad Stevens have a TBI that we don't know about?

MU82

I believe Stevens felt it was necessary to deal Brown for two reasons:

1. Brown will soon be extension eligible. Once Stevens decided that he didn't want to pay a 32-34-year-old $70M+ per season, trading him made sense. Teams make that kind of calculus all the time, and not just in the NBA.

2. Once word leaked that Brown would likely be included in a Giannis trade, there were concerns that the sensitive Brown would harbor resentment that would not go away soon if ever.

The stunning thing is that Stevens couldn't get more for Brown than the Jazz did for Walker Freakin' Kessler. And that Stevens dealt Brown to an archrival that the Celtics just lost to in the playoffs and that the Celtics will likely meet again in future playoff series. And that Stevens wouldn't include stiffs to make the Giannis trade. And ...

I totally get why they traded Brown, especially from a financial sense as you said.  I actually saw a clip of Bobby Marks talking with Windhorst on a podcast and said its basically a salary dump in the way that it needs to be done in the NBA.

Ive seen a decent amount of stuff regarding this as well...

In an analytics heavy game the NBA has become, while he's a very good player who puts up great stats, he doesn't move the needle for an elite team commensurate with a $60MM annual price tag.

Funny NBA news of the day. Tim Hardaway on his son wearing No. 10 in Miami:

"My legacy is my legacy, and he's doing it his way. Even though he likes to wear 10, he loves to wear 10, but that is not coming down from the rafters....That is tough to do, and when it's up there, you want it to stay up there and you don't want nobody to touch it. I love him. I love him to death. I'm happy for him. ... Now he's going to his hometown team. I never done that, and so I'm happy that he's doing it. But no, he can't wear No. 10."

I agree the return is not great for Brown, but slightly in Stevens' defense he did need to get a deal done. Bull's fans watch Artūras Karnišovas have the team's best players on the trading block for a year plus, only to watch their value continue to drop, because he thought they were worth way more than the market did. Maybe Stevens was not going to let perfect get in the way of good.
