ND is currently the 3 because they are up on UCONN by 1/2 a game.  If UCONN wins out they will be the 3 no matter what ND does.

If we beat Syracuse and UCONN doesn't lose... we will play ND under all scenarios.

well well well. the friars pull off the upset. i'm not advocating that MU do a black sox and throw the Syracuse game, BUT.... mb the six seed would be better for the BE tournament? Play the 11 (Seton Hall?) and then is lined up to play ND, instead of UConn, since they lost to PC and fall to the 4 seed, i believe. just something to think about

I believe Providence has the tie breaker over DePaul for the final spot as both teams have split against each other, lost once to Louisville, and lost once to Georgetown.

Providence, however, has only lost once to Notre Dame while DePaul has lost twice to Notre Dame.

If anyone believes any different let me know and I can change it.

Titan,  I don't think that is right.  If Providence were to play ND a second time, they could end up with the same record as Depaul at 0-2.  Per Scenario 3 in the tiebreaker...I think you need to keep going down the standings.

However since the next team in the standings is UConn, Providence wins the tiebreaker at 2-0 vs. UConn compared to Depaul at 0-1, so your bracket holds.

When comparing records against a single team or collective tied teams (before ties are broken), the following may apply:
a. If the games played against the team or group are equal, winning percentage prevails.
b. If the games played against the team or group are unequal, the following scenarios apply:
1) Most wins do prevail only if the team with fewer wins could not equal that win total if they played the same number of games.
Two examples of many scenarios that do provide an advantage:
1)TeamA2-02)TeamA3-0
TeamB0-1TeamB1-1
2) Most wins do not prevail if the team with fewer wins could equal or surpass the win total of the other team.
Three examples of many scenarios that do not provide an advantage:
1)TeamA1-12)TeamA2-03)TeamA1-0
TeamB0-1TeamB1-0TeamB0-0
3) Fewer losses do not prevail if the teams have the same number of wins and if the team with fewer games could equal or surpass the loss total of the other team.
Three examples of many scenarios that do not provide an advantage:
1)TeamA1-02)TeamA0-13)TeamA0-0
TeamB1-1TeamB0-2TeamB0-1
If an advantage is not determined, proceed to the next team or group in the standings for comparison.

If the tie cannot be broken after continuing down through the last team or teams in the standings, revert back to comparing records against the top teams in order and allow winning percentage to prevail even if there a comparison of unequal games. Only then, if the percentages are both 1.000, than 2-0 is better than 1-0. It also follows that 1-0 is better than 0-0. However, the reverse is not true – no team gains advantage when all have a .000 winning percentage (0-0 is never better than 0-1, and 0-1 is never better than 0-2).

you'd like to go into the tournament with some momentum, but losing to Syracuse and finishing sixth might not be the worst thing in the world.

BrewCity83

According to the AP story in todays Journal-Sentinel, Providence holds all of the tiebreakers over DePaul and will clinch the 12th spot with a win tomorrow over Villanova.

wheresthecake?

I would definitly rather play Seton Hall and Notre Dame than a hot Providence team and UConn...So it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, other than NCAA seeding, if we lost tomorrow IMO.  I think it would even out though since I think we would go further in the BE tourney as a 6 seed than a 5.

cuncur...
6th seed looks better to me.
tho' a grudge against looville or uconn could be fun.

just don't like those matchups as much as ND and taking care of the hoyas once and for all!

I would RELISH a matchup with ND or Looey.

It takes those kind of games to get MU motivated!

I just updated the most recent bracket.  Everything is correct on yours except the seeds for Syracuse and Villanova but they are 8 and 9 so it shouldn't matter.

Last Update (Final Bracket):  12:56 A.M. March 10, 2008.

I believe these game times are EST, not CST, right?

Yes, Central Daylight Time.  MU will play every night at 8:00 Central (9 Eastern) until they either lose or are crowned Champion.

I'm all for the latter! Pitt, take care of L'ville and make our path a little easier!!
