Some big results from the WIAC that should help Marquette's cause:

UW-Whitewater 24 UW-La Crosse 18

UW-Platteville 38 UWEC 0

UW-River Falls 34 UW-Oshkosh 31

UW-Polytechnic Stout 48 UWSP 2

Texas ain't #1 no more.

Man, I just watched those highlights and really the only reason Texas lost that game were those awful Arch interceptions. Just brutal.

Beautiful score.

Apparently one of Stout's touchdowns was a pick six on a SP hail mary just before halftime...it included multiple laterals as well.

Apparently, we have a lot of work to do here on Scoop if we're gonna catch down to TexAgs.com, which TAMU coach Mike Elko is calling a "cesspool."

Yep, it's the fan site's fault his coaching sucks and his team has lost 3 times in 4 games.

HBO star Matt Rhule fell to 0-10 against ranked opponents in his four-year Nebraska career and 2-26 against ranked opponents in his college head coaching career.

Good to know he's every bit as good a college coach as he was a Carolina Panthers coach. But he sure can deliver a line in Lanterns!

Rhule isn't a bad college coach.

In that case, he's much better than he was a Carolina Panthers' coach ... even if he can't beat anybody good.

Yeah, he actually had his team in position to win yesterday over a more talented team.

PointWarrior

I was getting ready to fall asleep and hear ESPN say "watch this play of Uiversity of Wisconsin-Steve's Point."   I immediately think, this can't be good as they are a terrible team.

The Hail Mary was at half down 31-0.  The UWSP QB did not even get the ball to the end zone.   3 laterals and a whole mess of terrible tackling and lack of effort, you get a pick 6 Hail Mary.  Just wow.

No,  Elko is correct. Imagine Scoop but filled exclusivly by dentists. Times that by 27 and you have about half a TexAgs.

Yikes!

I'll take your word for it. Life's too short to spend one minute reading that. I mean, I won't even go into the Scoop game threads.

Hypocrites are everywhere.

This does open up the topic of punching, though. In the Seahawks game, Darnold threw an interception and the Seattle player tried to punch the ball out of the interceptor's hands but instead punched the interceptor. The Seahawks player was correctly assessed a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty. But I think that's the only time I've seen that called despite seeing numerous examples of players punching other players in failed attempts to execute the "Peanut Punch."

Interesting bit on college football spending in The Athletic:

How much does a roster spending advantage in college football actually matter?

Per my colleagues Emily Giambalvo and Yuriko Schumacher: Heading into this weekend, among the 203 Power 4 games with an estimated budget difference of $5 million or more between the teams, the team with more money has gone 55-26 against the team with less money.

But! That is skewed by a 26-8 record by teams with a massive financial advantage of $15 million or more. When the gap is "only" $5-10 million, the team with more money is only 19-17.

I would guess most people would find this to confirmatory of the assertion that unequal payrolls result in unequal results. That is not in and of itself bad. "College" football and sports has to decide what it wants to be or accomplish.

The other professional sports leagues view the sport as the product competing against other form of entertainment and not the Yankees vs the Brewers or Rams vs the Texans in a free market sense. They believe the best value creation comes from having everything as equal as possible between the teams.

College sports may find it better to have an unlevel playing field that benefits the blue bloods and teams that drive viewers. If college sports is truly a revenue focused business (I think that is obvious) then it should support the model that best accomplishes that goal.

The MLB thread taught me that payroll discrepancies is unimportant in a sports team's ability to be competitive.

From Yahoo Sports:

Maryland and Rutgers, who play each other this weekend in College Park, are a combined 0-75 (!!!) against ranked Big Ten opponents since joining the conference together in 2014.

Crazy. Rutgers doesn't surprise me, but I'd have thought the Terps would have picked off a 24 or 25th ranked team at some point.

I'm not a fan of the way the B10 does business, but they are due credit for building the most lucrative revenue model underpinned by the expansion teams.

Hindsight being 20/20, they would have been way better off taking neither of these schools. They did it for reasons, to get the BTN onto the main tier of cable systems in New York and Washington, that seem quaint today. I don't think that meant anything for the media contracts that just took force a couple years ago.

Conferences are more built on brands. These two are just duds.

I like me some SVP typically, but him still trying to sell the move to the Big 18 as a good one is laughable.

They want to be Penn State's rival in football and Penn State doesn't care.  They have no basketball rivals anymore nor will they.

They've been called a "sleeping giant" in football because of the Under Armour money and talent near them.  The talent near them can get paid anywhere.  One of Mike Locksley's selling points as coach was recruiting.  Doesn't matter.
