It's nice to see that the rough is costing these guys a lot.  Probably more than 1/2 a shot for the field.

Have to trick up the course to deal with nuclear golf balls and frying pan drivers where missing the sweet spot only means a few lost yards

Congrats to your champ, Brooks Koepka

4 putting with an eagle chsnce isn't ideal.  Scheffy completely out of sorts.

The course seems to be winning right now.

This could be Hovland's moment finally.

Also, if you're inclined, great time to buy low on Rahm to win futures.  Feel like he always surges in big tournaments after he pukes up a couple strokes quickly.

Uncle Rico

Course is simply too easy. They need to add about 1800 yards, imo

From Yahoo Sports:

As Phil Mickelson, aka Lefty, aka Phil the Thrill, aka FIGJAM, aka one of the two most famous golfers of the 21st century, teed off Thursday in what might be his final U.S. Open, there were more security guards than journalists following him. And there were two security guards.

AKA Phil who?

Big fall for Tristan Lawrence after briefly hitting -6.

Too bad. As a white South African, he's always welcome to succeed in the U.S.

The putting surfaces will not brown out this weekend after tonight's rain.   However, the rough will now be even more penal.

Hovland is dangerous if he can putt.

Uncle Rico

That's a leaderboard at Oakmont.

Burns evolution as a player has to include competing for majors and he has the opportunity.  I'm skeptical he's in the mix on Sunday.

Ben Griffin has been one of the best players on tour the past few months.  Wyndham Clark 2.0?

Hovland has been in the mix for majors.  Can he avoid big numbers?  That's been his issue in the past.

Adam Scott is the sentimental favorite but that putter is always the issue.  On these greens?  Hard to trust him.

Russell Henley has quietly been a top-20 player for over a year and got in the mix in '22.  He was +4 at one point yesterday but steered her home to +2.  Seems fidgety in big spots.

Brooks is Brooks but it feels like he's living off that day 1 early eagle.  2 years ago, I'd have said he's the clear favorite and this is a setup he can steer through.  Still, not sure I'm buying.
