Loretta Swit died yesterday at age 87.  Synonymous with role of Margaret Houlihan and helped make M*A*S*H iconic show it became.  She was really good especially in early years of the show.  Don't know if she did much of anything after series ended.  I'm sure she didn't have to work anymore.

I always appreciated how they let her character grow and evolve.  She was a one note stereotype at the beginning and a real person by the end.

Think about how deep a dentist gets in your oral cavity and then double it

He's implying that Nancy Reagans nickname was hot lips. There's a decades old rumor that Nancy Reagan was quite skilled orally.

Absolutely agree with this assessment.

She was a floozie who evolved into a real person with real emotions and feelings about the world around her. By the end of the show, you could see the writers melding her and the doctors into a team far different than the early show.

Compare the Loretta Swit character to the Larry Linville character and one sees not just a maturity in her role as an actress but the writers' ability to create a genuinely relatable character. For some reason, the writers could never give Linville's Frank Burns the same evolution.
