George Wendt ended up being known for one major role, but what a role it was.

At least we still have Joe Lieberman.

Got like 6 Emmy noms in a row I think.  Also got booted from ND, which makes him cooler.

His sister also had a son who got kind of famous.  Depending what you follow... Guy by the name of Jason Sudeikis

One of my favorite scenes on Cheers that Norm was part of:

The swimsuit competition on the Miss America pageant was about to begin on TV, with Diane trying desperately to persuade the patrons that they should not watch it because it was sexist. Of her pleas are ridiculed.

Norm shouts to Woody, working behind the bar "Hey Woody! Miss Indiana.

Woody replies "Oh, I did at first Mr. Peterson. But Boston is my home now."

Wild horses couldn't drag me into either political party, but for very different reasons.

I was unemployed for 2 stretches in my early 20s and would spend my mornings job searching/applying, and my afternoons binging TV.  I got through some of the peak TV of that day that I hadn't watched in college...The Wire, Sopranos, first few season of Mad Men.  But for some reason, I started watching Cheers.  It went off air when I was 7, so I never watched or knew anything about it, but had loved watching Frasier with my Grandpa and college rooomate, so I thought I'd go back.  Ended up watching it about 1.5 times, so it was a fond show for me...

The amusing thing for me, looking back on it all 20/20, was how George Wendt was the clear dual secondary star in the show (with Rhea Perlman) after Danson and Shelly Long, and poised for a breakout.  But his solo project flopped and he just became a bit part actor and Woody, Kelsey/Frasier, and, the sneaky big success, John Ratzenberger, all surpassed him in fame/success.  Cheers became a huge launching pad but not for really for any of the main 4, outside of Danson.

Hope its no time soon, but when he eventually passes, looking back on Ratzenberger's career is gonna be great.  Cliff Clavin was obviously a pop culture icon for the time, but then that generations kids and grandkids all know and adore Ratzenberger, without knowing what he looks like, cause he's been arguably the most important/impactful voice actor for Pixar, the most important company in modern movie animation.

Reminds me of my other good Cheers ancedote.

I was born in Indianapolis in the mid 80s.  My parents neighbors and best friends the years the lived there met at and were alums of Hanover College, which is where Woody Harrelson attended, and they were there at the same time as him.  It was a small school, 1000ish kids, so they knew him fairly well.

They said they weren't surprised how well he did on Cheers.  Beyond the fact that he was named Woody and hailed from Hanover, IN, he didn't have to act much at all.  He was a great guy, charming and fun to be around, but as close to male version of a ditzy blond as could be.  I think the quote I remember my mom telling me was the wife saying "Woody is great, amazing guy, but he's a total loon"...which knowing what we know about him from the last 30+ years, couldn't be more accurate.

Billy Hoyle

at freshman orientation in 1994 the icebreaker question was "what is your favorite episode of Cheers?" It was such an iconic show (the overwhelming answer was Cliff on Jeopardy). Then Senior Week was the finale of Seinfeld. My time in college was bookended by two of the most iconic sitcoms in history.

I remember what a cultural event the Cheers finale was. Sports Illustrated did an article about Sam Malone as a baseball player. Jay Leno broadcast live in front of the Bull and Finch (the exterior shot for Cheers) after the finale (a perfect ending to Cheers), and the entire cast was hammered beyond belief.

The problem is that we will need to import our wooden teeth from Canada.

When they are the 51st state that will just be considered interstate commerce and tariffs won't apply. Problem solved!
