OT MU adds swimming program

It's "revenue-generating" in a manner similar to a D3 school offering sports teams. Students come to MU to participate in the sport, pay tuition, and in the end, the costs of the team (coach, travel, etc) are less than the tuition received.

This right here. It's similar to MU Tennis and Track now that they are non-scholarship. Other schools are doing this to increase male enrollment by adding sports like lacrosse and football.

I find this amusing, as my wife had D1 offers for swimming but was burned out after high school and one of the reasons she chose MU is they did not have a swimming program and wouldn't be pressured to compete.

Most of the Power 5, specifically the flagship public institutions, don't have to worry about putting bodies in seats. They have plenty.
