I feel we always lose these types of emotional games

I don't see this as an emotional game for Shaka or the team. For some scoopers? Sure! But so what?

I'm not surprised he tried to get out of the game. I'm surprised he freely admitted it though.

They're going to be a stereotypical Buzz team. They are going to shoot like s**t from three. Pharrel Payne and Solomon Washington will be beasts on the offensive glass, and their greatest offensive success will likely come on putbacks. Need to force misses (shouldn't be hard) and compete on the glass (will be hard).

Defensively, they will try to win the fight first, stop the opponent second. They'll be physical, but historically Buzz's teams don't do well on defense the first couple years (#52 in year one at Marquette was the best defensive rank per kenpom in his first two years at any stop). Maybe they'll be better because of the TAMU holdovers, but I wouldn't put money on it.

Maryland is probably going to be a bubble team. Gun to my head right now, they're more likely NIT/Crown than they are Dayton. Just not enough offensive firepower or defensive cohesion. Add in that this game is likely their first test on the road in the second week of the season in a very hostile environment against a veteran team and I like our odds.

Hopefully Maryland doesn't manage to make more FT than Marquette attempts

I think Shaka v Texas was more emotional than this one and I recall being pretty pleased with the outcome

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Word is that Jimmy Butler agreed to address the team pregame.

Its been years now showing his teams are bad at shooting but its still strange to read when my first three years at MU we were a pretty good 3pt shooting team.

Well, they will play harder than Marquette. It's impossible for any team to play harder than Buzz Williams coached team, just ask him.

It was a combination of inheritance and luck, I think. He got the Amigos with Lazar, Cooby, & Acker following them from Crean.

DJO, Crowder, & Jimmy could all shoot a bit, but when he went to mostly HS recruits, he didn't get anyone who shot it very well.

Agree weird was going to post something similar regarding Cooby DJO Acker Hayward and Butler and the 2009-2010 team but got called away for work. Awesome post.
