Don't worry, MU isn't shooting up any of these way-too-early rankings lists with our portal gets. Just ignore them and keep sleuthing the portal to ID Marquette targets. It's more productive.

This is really stupid.
Shaka hasn't lost ONE player worth keeping in his entire tenure at Marquette: that includes 4 NBA players, 2 All-Americans, BE POY, BE ROY, BE 6MOY. Nigel could have topped the entire portal market if he entered, but he was quite literally the first notable high major player who announced he was returning to his current school. Sounds like he got ~$3M, could have easily doubled that if he portaled.

Now, where I will agree is it felt like RGV became in part synonymous with an unearned commitment to players we recruited from high school - Tre Norman, Sean Jones, Caedin Hamilton, Al Amadou, Ben Gold and Chase Ross taking on much larger roles than their talent warranted. But to say "I don't think Shaka was ever so dumb to truly believe that the RGV crap would work" is nonsensical - it clearly works. Just now it's working with good players and not bad players.

If thats true maybe  he should go.. how do you leave that kind of money off the table? for loyalty? 3 mill?

Do you remember seeing the preseason polls in 2021 and 2022, both of which predicted 9th-place finishes in those seasons - and both done when Big East coaches actually knew all of the teams' rosters? How did Marquette end up doing those seasons? Or do only polls done out of ignorance, when no team's roster is known, matter to you?
