It makes so much sense.  Dodds cant be negative on his own board so this is his alter ego on here.

Quote from: Viper on November 25, 2025, 07:39:06 PMare you saying...up to the player? Shaka tells a kid he's in over his head...but the kid decides? I hope I'm misinterpreting here. If not, That absolutely can't be. I remember a guy on my HS team got cut...mid-season!! Coach never said..we have a jv guy that's a stud, I'd like him to take your position on the team...but hey, only if you agree!!! If a guy isn't as anticipated, the coach MUST make the hard decision. Buck stops with the coach, not the player.

With 15 scholarships, of course that's a possibility. To say "that absolutely can't be" is ludicrous.

Quote from: MU82 on November 23, 2025, 05:45:45 PMGreg Gard has proven to be a failed coach. Why would you want to replicate his methods?

FWIW, while I like Shaka's recruit/develop/retain philosophy, I also think he should strongly consider bringing in select transfers. The suggestion that he should have added a guy like Boyd instead of a four-year starter like James was silly.

Boyd had 36 yesterday, 15-25 not bad

Cool. Wake me when you learn how to quote posts properly. And then wake me again when your favorite coach leads your beloved Weasels to anything tangible.

First off, Gard is not even my favorite coach, not even close.  But he changed his philosophy from boring Ryan basketball to an up tempo style, uses the portal and for them it works.  I respect Shaka's philosophy but not sure you can win his way.  Adding a transfer would have helped last year, this year and maybe next year.  Time will tell.

What has Gard won with his new and improved philosophy?

I'm not sure a team can win Shaka's way long-term, either. Most Scoopers aren't, really. This season certainly has been a test, and the grades aren't great so far. But yes, time will tell.

Gards done enough to keep his job, bringing in Tonje and Boyd this year is very impressive, wonder what they were paid to come there? Always in the Top 5 in that conference is shocking, he can coach.

Gard's exciting up tempo style is such an improvement from Bo's boring basketball that Greg has won 3 Tournament games in the 8 years he has not had the benefit of having a roster full of Bo Ryan's players.

He also recruits kids that can put the ball in the hole, something MU is lacking.

Pretty crazy he finds Tonje and then Boyd

I was watching a San Diego TV station yesterday and the sportscaster commented on Boyd's good game since he was previously at SDSU.  He ended by saying: "It's believed that Boyd was paid one million dollars to join the Badgers."

Not sure if it's true or not.  Just repeating what the San Diego sports guy said.

I would say how little badgers pay football players, no one is getting a paid a million to play hoops.

Bingo.

Boyd was an attractive option in the portal. He didn't get peanuts either.

Tell you were NLI is, how much you think Nolan Minnesale gets at St Thomas?
