Quote from: jfp61 on April 22, 2026, 09:02:14 AMMichigan didn't pay freshman who didn't play last year.

Michigan payed very good players who had played limited minutes and performed well on the court.

And?

Quote from: Pakuni on April 22, 2026, 09:04:58 AMThis happens all the time in professional sports (and that's obviously what this is now).

Aaron Judge isn't the highest-paid Yankee. Jalen Brunson isn't the highest-paid Knick (neither is KAT or Bridges). Connor McDavid isn't the highest-paid Oiler.
Timing and market forces matter.

If you want to make the case that Sheek isn't worth whatever it is you think he's getting to the point that you're good without him, I'm listening. But if the claim is that they didn't match because they had to abide by an arbitrary "structure," then that's a silly way to operate.

They had an agreement with him in place already that determined what Marquette thought he was worth. And he agreed to it.

Bad examples. Aaron Judge is under contract through 2031. If Aaron Judge wants a raise and the Yankees say no, he can't just leave and get paid more by the Dodgers. His options are to play or retire.

Quote from: Billy Hoyle on April 22, 2026, 08:54:51 AMthen St. Thomas can ask the NCAA to report MU.

But why didn't he have a no contact designation when Sheek does?

Why would a school do this?  At least in basketball.  No offense, but that's pie in the sky thinking.  Coaches aren't cutting off their noses to spite their faces.

OK. Straight from Broeker's mouth.

I'm not even sure what this means.

Sheek's next stop better be a place with no or fake football. Otherwise, the direct payment $$ isn't gonna be there and he's playing with fire. But, plenty of MM's and others with $ available under the cap.

More importantly, whatever team he lands at won't already have two backup centers, one of whom gets to play no matter what.

I thought one of the other centers may leave once Fru was secured. This blows.

On the good side, I also thought a guy like DO could make a smart $ decision by dropping to a MM for a year, then trying to get a massive bag the following year.. but he didn't (at least I don't think he did.. news could still trickle out the next two days.. fml).

OK, get on the phone with centers, tell them our backups are for practice, and bring someone in.

Quote from: Jay Bee on April 22, 2026, 06:05:45 AMNo. He was worried about minutes next year bc others were staying, including the teacher's favorite.

A nice year this year - be it at a HM or MM - would help his $$$ in 2027-28. Worried about sitting while 18 plays, it becomes looking forward, not just 2026-27.

There's no illegal tampering monster $$$ waiting for him. He just saw what a couple of us saw as the disappointing reality.

Definitively not true.

GoldenEagles03

This scenario with Sheek must upset Shaka. I'm sure he's not mad at the kid, but the system. I will be interested to see if that makes Shaka open to anything and everything in the portal now, or if it doesn't change the way he views things at all. Taking developmental players seems like a thing of the past. There's almost no reason to roster Freshman that you don't think have a chance to play right now.

We'll see where everything lands, but maybe multi-year contracts with stiff penalties (pawz) for breaking contract (e.g., clawbacks) that are actually enforced would be a path.. seems unlikely anytime soon though.

What a SS. (stands for sh1t show... maybe).

Shaka is always looking for ideas. I think he should reach out to George W. Bush to learn how to look into a recruit's eyes to get a sense of his soul. Sheek clearly was not buying into the importance of relationships.

Prove it's not.

I'm saying something I know to be true. If you want to live in an alternate reality, that's your right.

Point is, our so-called insiders have been wrong plenty, and often the things they claim to know are not provable one way or another ... like this one.
You're free to take it on faith.

Buddy I have no inside info - just bugs me when people proclaim something as fact but wont back it up. Show your work.

The general idea makes sense. I don't see any way they'd be able to enforce the penalties.

How is he supposed to "prove it" exactly?
