Good in so many things.  For most of us, Coach Norman Dale.  4 passes before shooting next game in his honor.

RIP.

Both he and his wife found dead in their home...foul play not suspected.

The dog, too.   CO poisoning?

This seems like the most logical thing.

In honor of Gene Hackman, in my late teens and early 20's my friends and I used to play a "game" we called Narrow Margin where we tried to avoid paying for the late night train ticket back to Connecticut from New York City.

Crazy that it seems like it wasn't even natural causes that took him out at 95

Who knows how long he woulda trucked along without the probable CO poisoning

All I know about basketball is that you don't let the paint dry on the picket fence.

Although that wisdom came from Dennis Hopper.

Rest in Peace, coach Norman Dale.

Coach Norman Dale was such a believable character, and Hackman was the reason why.

My favorite scene in the movie- the hotshot player ignores coach's instruction to pass, takes the shot himself and makes it. Benched for the game, even when they had only 4 players left due to fouling out.

Coach's reply to the ref when told to get his team on the floor was as classic as "...an offer you can't refuse" in the Godfather- "My team is on the floor."

I learned that you can't score if you don't shoot.

Still time to get Gene in the Oscars' dead people montage?

and yet for the final play in the state title game, he was going to use Jimmy as a decoy and have Merle take the last shot on the Picket Fence.

I've always interpreted the players' response to running the Picket Fence in that game as "No, that's Shooter's play."

But the players were more interested in winning.

One of my favorite actors. Good in every role, whether dramatic, comedic, schmaltzy, etc. I mean, he was great as the preacher in The Poseidon Adventure and tremendous as Lex Luthor, roles that would have been ruined by less-talented actors.

WTH????

Hackman was one of the very best to lace them up.  He was really good in everything even if the script or movie sucked.  That's the mark of a tremendous actor.  He also had great comedic chops as well.  He's on my Mt. Rushmore with DDL, Jack, and the 4th is debatable.

I think Jack Quaid has a lot more to prove tbh.

I see loose pills were found on the floor near his wife who passed out in the bathroom.  Police have no idea why yet.

Sure, Jack Black was great in Shallow Hal, and Nacho Libre's a classic, but Mount Rushmore?  I think he's got to do more...

Pretty sure he meant Palance.

For an underrated Hackman movie, check out The French Connection 2.  Directed by John Frankenheimer, it's a really good fish-out-of-water movie where Popeye Doyle goes to France to try and catch the Fernando Rey character.  Hackman's detox scene is classic, and there's a great chase at the end.

The guy was really good in some mediocre movies too.  Look at his list of ficks.  He was always enjoyable to watch.   Masterclass.  And in a perfect world, his character of Agent Rupert Anderson, would be part of my security team.
