I think Caedin will be a solid player for us as soon as next season. As others have stated, things just need to slow down for him.  Now, he may not be able to stretch the floor, but he gives us a physical presence.  I think a number of Scoopers have been way too harsh with him.  Yes, he's not there yet.  He's struggled kicking the ball away and finding his footing in general.  But give him a full year and I'm confident we'll see a much better player.  MU needs more power inside and physicality.  I'm not saying he'll be Moses Malone but he has the potential to be an important piece moving forward.

Wow, is this thread title ever a fat pitch...
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

Agreed.

Some here are begging for an "Aircraft Carrier", but when we get one, they complain he's too slow, can't jump, and can't shoot from outside.  Think about what you are asking for.

Caedin is a big dude who takes up space near the basket, matches up with beefy opponents, and pulls down rebounds.  He's a freshman--we all know bigs generally take more time to develop.  Give him a chance.  I too believe he'll be a major contributor in his junior and senior seasons, if not next year.

Who was our original Aircraft Carrier--Jerome Whitehead?  Can Hamilton develop into today's version of that?

Not totally crazy.  I think it'll be 2 years before he's making significant contributions though.  He's got really good vision on offense and is capable of finding cutters and open shooters.  Ball handling and general situational awareness could be better.  Caedin with the ball with under 8 seconds in the shot clock turns a bit too much into hero ball mode at the moment, but that might just be him panicking.  He's gotten better with defensive positioning in the last couple of games too.

In my head, he's a less-nasty version of DeJuan Blair with 2 ACLs.

wadesworld

People expected him to be a big contributor this year, too.  I don't expect much next year, but I hope if he sticks around he'll be a contributor as an upper classman.

brewcity77

Okay. You're "Crazy Butt."

My kids would love your preferred nickname.

For next year, it might comedown to who is better Clark or Hamilton. Not sure if Hamilton can score, looks very raw underneath and free throw shooting is not impressive.  Both will get there chance, just see more athleticism in Clark

Caedin will be fine.  Another offseason of work.   Still not a finished product, but able to contribute more.

Still crazy,though.

Big thing right now is that he cannot score around the rim if there is someone between him and the basket.  If he can development some post moves he will be at worst a valuable change of pace guy.  He's pretty athletic for a guy his size.  He's got potential.

Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

He's not a finese player right now and he plays too fast.  It wasn't part of my game but there's nothing wrong with slowing down and playing with emphatic force and power.  It starts with owning the defensive glass, setting crushing screens, rolling to the rim, and finishing strong.

I see another year for a big improvement.
Still very raw

He should improve but does not have great hands. If he had Gardner type hands I would be very optimistic

Hope you are right but hands are so key... limits rebounds and passes for easy dunks.

Yea, this is crazy. I don't expect much from him, so I don't talk about him.

It is a rough watch so far.

tower912

I expect him to progress.   Not every recruit ends up in the league.  But there is no shame in a project big ending up like Burke, Barro, John, Grimm, as long as you are not planning to build a team around them.  Just like there is no shame being Derrick Wilson, until circumstances dictate a much larger role than originally intended.
