This is something only the chicken would say

Quote from: The Sultan on February 20, 2025, 04:24:58 PMThat's not accurate. After Gold was dropped, the Trustees developed a two-vote process that included write-ins, but made it clear from the beginning that Warriors was not going to be counted. Here is the release:

https://gomarquette.com/news/2005/5/11/Trustees_announce_new_nickname_selection_process

Voting infers a democratic process and if your write-in vote will not count that is not democratic thereby denying the will of a majority of alumni at the time who wanted to keep the Warrior mascot. Why pretend to have a vote when your vote does not count.

Right. Which is why I asked the question...

Quote from: The Sultan on February 20, 2025, 03:00:48 PMWhen did Marquette claim it was a democracy?

They didn't "pretend to have a vote." They had two of them.

If anyone wants to see all of the write-ins, I kept this file for the past 19.5 years for some reason. I was partial to the Bumble Bees (semi-serious) or Golden Guernseys (not really).

The Thing

As a 1990 grad I have made it my mission to not purchase (or allow anyone in my family to purchase) any MU attire that has any reference to the Eagle. I do not judge others as they can do what they will but it is my personal choice.

Long live the Warriors.

tower912

Hilltoppers for 40 ish years.  Warriors for 40 years.   Golden Eagles for 30 years.  My wife purchased for me a tee shirt with the first Warrior image on it.  I wore it once, buried it in a dresser drawer for 20 years and ultimately gave it away.  Could not wear it again in good conscience.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

The Sultan

Yeah I'm a '90 grad too and stopped caring long ago about the nickname.

Even democracies have rules. If the majority of people wrote in "George Washington" for President of the United States, would he become the President?

I have to assume we've reached the point where there are more Golden Eagle alums than Warrior alums.

Right. The President has to be 35 years old. They have to be born in the United States.

No one may be elected to the Presidency more than twice. There is still some question whether or not a two-term President may be elected Vice President and then serve as President if the President resigns. It all depends on how the Courts interpret the 12th Amendment.
