Jim Chones was one of my favorite players at MU that played on the best team I think MU ever had and got screwed by the refs fouling out Dean Menninger in his only loss.  Always wanted to see MU play UCLA but it never happened.

Alcindor/Chones matchup in a title game would have been off the charts.

It would have been Bill Walton in 1971-72.  Alcindor was in his 3rd year with the Bucks.

You have to admit, it would have been interesting to have the Bucks play the Warriors for the title.

That's why AL made Chones go pro, so he could play Alcindor.

It was the best team Al had, but that does not always translate to success. Just look at our '77 team and who would have thought we go all the way. As for Chones I remember the game at the Graden when we played Fordham. They took us through 2OTs but we just had more horses to win the game and Chones and our deep bench was just too much at the end.

MU/Al did a great job of getting badasses back in the day. It sure would be nice to get a guy that can rebound like Mr.Chones.

Or Maurice Lucas and a forward Robert Byrd, Lackey was not bad either

So glad to see Chones honored. I can still remember hearing the news on the radio that he was leaving Marquette. What a gut punch! I just stood there, in total shock for a while.

OK, now the great news. I got to see him play and see the Marquette fans wildly cheering him. Sweet memories.

Need to hit the portal for an Aircraft Carrier and a midrange shooter, and get rid of a couple of lame players. Enough of this woke culture experiment!

Bo Ellis, Larry McNeill and Gary Brell al we're good rebounders at around 9 per game average.

Ellenson was a great easy rebounder.

Ya...we didn't have another rebounder on that roster.  And bricked a lot.  I'll take Mr.Chones.

Chones was a stud, and those were some stud teams.

It's really interesting that, on the one hand, we have Scoopers saying the above.

But we also have Scoopers (including willie) questioning Shaka despite his conference titles and S16 appearance. However during the Chones era, the best Marquette did was the Sweet 16.
