Quote from: MuggsyB on February 01, 2025, 10:39:42 PMMissing FT's like crazy is more than the stat itself.  It's demoralizing.  It kills any momentum and contributes to losing focus on the defensive end. And in our case it's even worse because we generally don't get to the line that much.  It completely shook us and made us even tighter than we were to start the game.  Shaka said the right things about it but it pretty much cost us any chance of winning this game.

Did he say they'd practice them?

I'm just talking about what he said in the huddle about us being way too tight.

I also thought we played too fast tonight.  What's the quote?  Play fast but not hurried?  Our spacing was not there.  We've got guys pushing hard downhill but not knowing where to kick to or taking quick contested shots.

5 assists. And that seemed high
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

5 total assists isn't MU basketball.  We may have to find a way to get Kam off the ball a few more possessions.  But regardless our guys have to recognize where the defense is collapsing and move the basketball once they're surrounded in the paint.

What he failed to say is that they lacked focus on offense.

The crowd in general was awesome but I feel like the student section has totally died down. They don't really do any cheers except for the usual "Phuck (Insert team name)". They don't get loud until they basically have a cue to. None of them get excited until they see themselves on the big screen.

Idk maybe I'm over exaggerating, but I remember student sections of old having a real impact for all 40.

Sidenote: idc what people say, those inflatables in the student section rock. Bring back the fat heads, bring back the pinwheels, bring it all back!

We've reached this stage of grief I see.

Like I said...maybe I'm over exaggerating. The crowd in general is great. Just feels like student section rowdiness has died down.

They've been fine. Last night the whole building was waiting for a chance to explode, but Ball killed those chances off.

Practicing free throws is not likely to help much because it is difficult to impossible to replicate game situations.

I know that teams try to do that by shooting them in the middle of drills where they go right from something physical to the FT line or by putting some kind of pressure with a "punishment" like running for missing. But that still isn't like going to the line when hyped for a game, and getting up and going to the line after being knocked to the floor driving to the basket.

I do agree with the one poster who doesn't like Kam's "routine" of not bouncing the ball at all before shooting. But, if that's the way he's always done it, and that's how he feels comfortable it would probably be difficult to force him to change.

MUfan12

One rhythm dribble. Just try it. It's not like he's ever been a good FT shooter doing it his way.
