Hey, that's the risk you take when you post in the game thread. You never know what will get called out.

If I can get called out for being too calm (loved it, Johnny B), anything is fair game.

Quote from: MU1in77 on January 30, 2025, 02:59:59 PMIt's funny, the Dodd's site game thread has a post about every 10 minutes of the game. The Scoop site game thread has a post every time the ball crosses center court. Can't there be a happy medium?

I post frequently because it calms me down a bit.

If there's one word I'd use to describe your Scoop takes over the years, it absolutely would be "calm."

Quote from: tower912 on January 30, 2025, 09:17:09 AMI appreciate the usage of first amendment rights to vent.  Because I do the same.  The difference is that they are criticizing players and I am criticizing posters.  For criticizing players.  And then I, in turn, am criticized for criticizing posters who critizize players.  Also an appropriate use of the first amendment. The circle of life.

Yes.  I get a bit too amped if my only outlet is watching.

Judge Smails

I get called out for saying "very impressive win"?  There was no sarcasm in that comment. I was very impressed with the way the team came back in the second half on the road with Kam on the bench.

And my complaints against the refs is a common thing for fans to commiserate about. Indeed, commiseration is what the game thread is all about.  Refs being "on the take" was clearly hyperbole.  Nevertheless, it's happened before in college hoops as well as the NBA.  At the time I said it I felt that our guys were getting hammered underneath with no whistle while we were getting called for ticky tack fouls on the other end.

If you don't like the game thread then I suggest you don't read it. Making fun of your fellow passionate fans is uncool. There is an air of superiority among some Scoopers that is pretty annoying.

When I said "there you go" I was actually giving a compliment!

This is funny.

I actually go into the game thread to help Muggsy calm down 🤣

This kind of makes me want to go in there and act a fool next time so I can get called out though...

I appreciate that Dr.V.   Internally and outside the game thread I am far less calm.

I think this thread has been mistitled. It's the very worst of the Butler thread.

I look at the game thread as if I'm sitting at a bar with a bunch of friends. Yeah, there's gonna be wild takes, there's gonna be the guy who says really smart things that look dumb 30 seconds later, and the one friend who says "well this games over..." at the under 16 time out.

So calling people out is funny, but humans have emotions and the game thread is just a live rollercoaster of those thoughts.

tower912

But, like at the bar in your analogy, calling out your buddies after the fact is part of the process.   And asking why they always do that.

First, if I said some of those things at a bar, my friends would move or the owner would ask me to leave.

Second, a message board isn't a bar.

I am going to disagree here.  This message board is for a bunch of MU fans to express their opinions about MU basketball.  The non basketball board is even called 'superbar'.   Of course there is going to be a loud exchange of ideas.  Of course there are going to be different personalities.   Of course we all make judgements about people by what they post.  Of course we are going to like some more than others. A microcosm of life.

I loathe racism, misogyny, bullying.
I dislike the hive mind.
I have no respect for people who have a take and are then offended by that take being challenged.
But also, remember that your opinions can be viewed by players and family members of players.
Though you are relatively free to express your opinions, words have consequences and you are being judged by others.

I'm not calling for game topics to be banned or anything, but expressing your heat of the moment emotions permanently on a message board feels very different than saying something at a bar. That's all I am saying.

The reason that the chats are better is that the really dumb things that get said aren't emblazoned on a searchable forum for eternity (or as long as topper and rocky will have us!).

With a chat, it closes and disappears into the ether never to be seen again.
