Quote from: GoldenEagles03 on January 28, 2025, 08:20:49 PMWe are the only team that doesn't get cheap calls in our favor on our home floor.

We also are soft at times when things don't go our way.

Both can be true.

Quote from: TFlegend on January 28, 2025, 08:26:28 PMWhat was that half?? This team is deeply flawed to play like that against a terrible team like Butler.

Butler is 10-11 ATS...5-5 in conference. For reference, MU is 11-10 ATS and 4-6 in conference.

They are a very tough team to blow out.  Plus they have a solid homecourt and as Shaka likes to say:  A coach who "coached on Monday night".

I appreciate the usage of first amendment rights to vent.  Because I do the same.  The difference is that they are criticizing players and I am criticizing posters.  For criticizing players.  And then I, in turn, am criticized for criticizing posters who critizize players.  Also an appropriate use of the first amendment. I would never venture into the game thread, just can't subject myself to that.  But I've always wanted to be able to call out those who are over the top critical regarding player and team performance.  This gives me that ability.  My life is just that much more fulfilled.

Thank you for your efforts Sultan.  Please do this on a regular basis.

I think this recap is a nice touch.

I'll pop in and out of game threads depending on the game situation and what I'm doing.  I'll be liquored up at Fiserv for NMD so definitely won't be making an appearance in that one.

I think I'm usually pretty even-keeled or positive, aside from some complaining about officiating or the rampant and illogical negativity.

We'll see if I make an appearance in these recaps going forward  :D

Dung Willie's absence was sorely missed in this one but PGsHeroes32 more than made up for.  They are really a dynamic duo when both are present.

I've only clicked into a game thread on accident over the last couple of years.  Fun to see what I'm missing.

Honestly, I stay away from the game thread because there's way too much information and it's annoying to keep refreshing the page; the constant opinion-dumping makes it impossible to have an actual conversation in real-time.

Now now, don't sell yourself short.  You're our go-to stupid comment poster, little willie.

CountryRoads

Game threads are fine and comments within them should be taken with a grain of salt and given little value. Just because someone vents something in the heat of the moment during a game doesn't mean that's how they actually feel. I've heard similar "game thread" type comments in the stands at Fiserv. People get emotional during the game and that's fine.

It'd be a lot more concerning if people were still bashing players the next day and I don't see very much of that. Even then it may be defensible as these aren't just "kids" now, they are highly paid pros.

If I were the one running this site, I would nuke the game thread a few hours after the game though because it can make us look kind of bad. I don't know, just my thoughts on game threads.

I get called out for saying "very impressive win"?  There was no sarcasm in that comment. I was very impressed with the way the team came back in the second half on the road with Kam on the bench.

And my complaints against the refs is a common thing for fans to commiserate about. Indeed, commiseration is what the game thread is all about.  Refs being "on the take" was clearly hyperbole.  Nevertheless, it's happened before in college hoops as well as the NBA.  At the time I said it I felt that our guys were getting hammered underneath with no whistle while we were getting called for ticky tack fouls on the other end.

If you don't like the game thread then I suggest you don't read it. Making fun of your fellow passionate fans is uncool. There is an air of superiority among some Scoopers that is pretty annoying.

I look at the game thread as if I'm sitting at a bar with a bunch of friends. Yeah, there's gonna be wild takes, there's gonna be the guy who says really smart things that look dumb 30 seconds later, and the one friend who says "well this games over..." at the under 16 time out.

So calling people out is funny, but humans have emotions and the game thread is just a live rollercoaster of those thoughts.

tower912

But, like at the bar in your analogy, calling out your buddies after the fact is part of the process.   And asking why they always do that.

I am going to disagree here.  This message board is for a bunch of MU fans to express their opinions about MU basketball.  The non basketball board is even called 'superbar'.   Of course there is going to be a loud exchange of ideas.  Of course there are going to be different personalities.   Of course we all make judgements about people by what they post.  Of course we are going to like some more than others. The reason that the chats are better is that the really dumb things that get said aren't emblazoned on a searchable forum for eternity (or as long as topper and rocky will have us!).

With a chat, it closes and disappears into the ether never to be seen again.

We've gotten semi confirmed reports that recruits/recruits parents/players parents have visited over the years. If you wouldn't tell Tre to his face that he's not good enough and needs to transfer, you shouldn't say it here. Saying "x player is playing bad" or "x needs to shoot better" is fine, but there are several posters who routinely go too far IMO.

Ragging on the refs is fine. By and large, college reffing is inconsistent at best, and it's easy enough to roll my eyes at the anti MU conspiracy stuff.
