Marquette is in solid position to earn a protected seed, but what about the rest of the Big East? Today we look at the resumes of teams currently in the field and the ones on the outside with a chance to still get in as the league hopes to earn 5 bids come March. All that and a new S-Curve and (very interesting for Marquette) bracket.

And apologies to Georgetown, your time on the bubble was fun while it lasted.

Big East Check-In

Coleman

Good stuff. Would really like to see the conference get 5 bids. I think Xavier has a chance

bilsu

Marquette does not deserve a bid, if they go 2-8.

*Sigh*

It's the total body of work.  Even 2-8 would have us well ahead the teams in Dayton and in the 8/9 seed range.

CountryRoads

That would be nuts if they paired us against UWM.

They absolutely would. Wins over Maryland, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Georgia aren't going anywhere. 20-11 (11-9) would tank our seed, but we'd be safely in.

Lost me when the article had UCONN and bubble in same sentence.

There aren't any bracketing principles that would block it, and with neither of us being able to play at Fiserv it does increase the chances of that being our matchup.

Local media might actually talk about Marquette again though, which would be nice.

First of all, "UConn" and "bubble" were not ever in the same sentence.

Second, what is inaccurate about this? "Their back loaded schedule gives them the opportunity to move up as high as a 4 or 5 seed, but they are trending closer to the bubble and still have work to do as they could easily miss the field if they lose games they aren't supposed to lose."

This happened to me in the North American hurling finals a few years back. We had to fly out to San Francisco to get paired against... the Naperville/suburban Chicago hurling club.

I did not say they would not get a bid. I said they would not deserve one.

Do you believe everyone worse than an 8 seed every year doesn't deserve a bid?

But also I'm bad at dribbling the ball.

Look at their resume. Their best wins are Gonzaga, Baylor, and Texas. 4 losses outside the field. Memphis is the best team they played and they lost.

They have five Q1 games left. They'll need to get wins against Marquette, St John's, and Creighton to solidify their case while not slipping up. This isn't the UConn of the past two years and they're a lot further from safety than they've been in the past. No one in their right mind would call them a lock today.

FairWeatherEagle

Good article. So the math looks like it puts 6 really out of the question. X and NOVA  look mutually exclusive.

Played (forget losing to) Dayton.  Not a serious team.

X at Nova next week feels like an elimination game. Doesn't guarantee a bid for the winner, but hard to see a path for the loser.

Interesting idea. Gets some basic facts wrong though.  Nothing wrong with looking at more numbers and data to help get a clearer picture but at some point the law of diminishing returns has to apply.

He means local sports radio. Which will never happen. The Packers get more air time than the Brewers and BUcks combined,  in May.
