Owning a Xybertruck is inherently political. No one is buying them for their truck capabilities.

I'm not sure that's true. Nearly 90 million eligible Americans didn't vote in the last election, and millions upon millions more don't expose themselves to a steady diet of political news. I imagine plenty of Tesla owners are only vaguely, if at all, aware of Musk's political activities.
Some people, bless their hearts, just think those are cool cars.

Just yesterday, my wife and I saw a Model Y with a bumper sticker that had ELON in a circle, with a line through it.

Seattle is a tree-hugger's paradise and it has been Tesla central the last few years - including my daughter and SIL, who have been driving a Model X since 2020. In addition to them, I know 5 others who either have already sold or are planning to sell their Teslas because they can't stand being associated with Elon. The 3 I know who have already sold all said the trade-in value was worse than they thought it would be.

I'm not talking about Teslas overall, but rather the Xybertruck specifically.

Sure, people aren't buying them to offroad or tow trailers, but I think there are plenty of people who think the new, edgy, overly expensive truck is a shiny thing they want, even if they don't worship Elon.  It was in the works, spec'd, talked about, etc... before his whole political foray.

FWIW, I know 3 Cybertruck owners.  1 is a Canadian and 1 is a trustfund kid who had a Rivian R1S before it and wrapped his Cybertruck bright blue with a stripe and absolutely didn't even vote cause he's too self absorbed to care about politics.  The other? An early 50s gay latino man who lives in my building and who flies the full LGBT flag on his balcony.  So idk, YMMV.

Very much so. Your experience is the polar opposite of mine. The owners here all look like...well, as expected.

I asked ChatGPT "I'm a white male who got a dental degree from Marquette, what should I post" and it just started spamming the N word at me. I don't think it's ready guys...

Should have asked Deepseek.

Tsmith, most people I know with (any) Tesla think they're cool tech gadgets.  Though one of my buddies is (has?) removing the badges from his.   Bigly protest, lol.

My experience is vastly different between Tesla car owners and Xybertruck owners.

Contrary to recent overall Tesla sales numbers, in the last year there has been an explosion of the number of Tesla cars in our area. For whatever reason (cool gadget, status, tax break, or whatever), a solid 2/3 seemed to be owned by families from India, South Korea, and other Asian countries. The trucks, and there are a handful, are exclusively driven by white males who fit the exact physical description you might expect.

I am not dismissing your experience or Wags, but here they are very much a statement that doesn't have anything to do with perceived coolness.

I imagine you could offer this stereotype for most pickup owners, though.
According to this, 84% of pickup truck owners are white and 88% are men.

Anecdote isn't data, but the only Cybertruck owner I know is a Polish immigrant neighbor who has zero interest in American politics. He just thinks it's a cool status symbol (and I don't have the heart to correct him).

Sounds like buyer's market.  Good time to buy a used Tesla.
Did they go back to evil petroleum fueled vehicles?

If you wan tot get him fired up tell him the "Cybertruck yest koop-ka."
Then throw in a "Koo da va."  Better yet you should skip the second part.

Nope. 2 bought Kia EVs, and I can't remember what the other got but it was an EV (or maybe a plug-in hybrid?).

You can probably find one real cheap from Hertz.

Or just wait five years and the Federal Government will be done with a whole lot of armored cybertrucks.
