It is related.  The Gold name change was not real.  It was one of many events that are apart of the Forrest Fenn treeasure solve which is not over.  And that is mild compared to other things they have done.  Have you heard of the story of Suzanne Morphew - the lady who went missing in Colorado a few years ago?  She was from the area and that is part of it.  I have a podcast on that as well below if you are interested - see 'The Blaze' podcast.
