Will MU be 19-2, 10-0, heading into National Marquette Day and a top 5 showdown against UCONN?   Road Games between now and then are Butler, Seton Hall and Depaul.  Home games are Creighton, Gtown, Xavier and Nova.  What will our record be on NMD?

19-2, 10-0.  We will be favored in every game.  Take Care of Business.
18-3, 9-1.  Drop 1 at home, or against 1 of the 3 worst on the road.
17-4, 8-2.  Somewhat shaky.
16-5, 7-3.  The wheels have fallen off.

Quote from: GoldenEagles03 on January 03, 2025, 11:46:22 AMBecause we are talking about them potentially starting 10-0 before they face UConn and their odds at one point were +750 to win the league.

Are you that upset?

Not as upset as you are about not being able to get preseason odds on a season we're 2 months into.  But yes, that would be awesome if Poto worked that way.

I'm not mad I can't get +750 right now.

Rothstein posted the updated odds quoting that Tweet from November. I'm just shocked the odds were that low to begin with.

Quote from: GoldenEagles03 on January 03, 2025, 11:22:50 AMWTF? Too bad Poto didn't/doesn't allow me to bet on Marquette.

Can confirm, not mad.

I'll let you twist your way around how preseason BE title odds have anything to do with January record.

You're misunderstanding.

Poto doesn't allow you to bet on Marquette. If they did I likely would have been aware of the odds back in November. I posted it here because we are talking about being 10-0 and that just shows how low the odds really potentially were.

If that really bothers you that much, I'm sorry wades. Have a good day and go MU.

Quote from: GB Warrior on January 03, 2025, 09:42:33 AMHow is Uconn getting to top 5 between now and then?

By winning.  I guarantee if they are 18-3 on Feb 1st, they are Top 5.

I will also guarantee if we get to 19-2, we are Top 4.

HowardsWorld

On a side note, according to bart torvik Marquette is only a dog in 2 games the remainder of the season. @Uconn by +3 and @ St Johns by 1. Every other game they are favored.

Quote from: UWW2MU on January 03, 2025, 09:18:01 AMStatistics, probability, and just the fact that things unforeseen can just go wrong sometimes force me to say we drop 1 along the way to NMD.

That's the problem with looking at a big block of games. All it takes is MU having one of those 4 for 30 3 point shootimg nights, an opponent getting really hot, some foul trouble or an injury to a key player and a game can turn ugly. The Butler game last year was one example of this, and this year's Butler game started out the same way.

Needless to say, because MU figures to be a solid favorite in each of these games, a loss in any one of them would be pretty disappointing. But it would hardly be an unfathomable upset.

Creighton can be dangerous if they have one of those hot shooting games.Harassing and containing Ashworth should be a focus because with Isaacs out the Jays don't have as many weapons as they have had in some other recent years.

Quote from: MarquetteMike1977 on January 03, 2025, 11:33:15 AMHopefully am wrong but see tonight's game as a tough game for Marquette. In December Creighton has beaten Kansas, Villanova and Saint John's with a close loss on the road against Alabama. Feel Marquette is going 6-1 or 5-2 in January

The key to that KU game was Pop Issacs, who is out for the season. And beating Villanova isn't a reason to be concerned about an opponent
