Major gambling sites and bettor analytics hubs give #6 Marquette a low probability of victory today against Dayton. A few renown sites say to take Dayton moneyline. FanDuel has the moneyline for both teams at even odds.

Using statistics I plugged in from KenPom, I asked ChatGPT to run a simulation of both teams playing 10,000 times. The model concluded Dayton has a 48% chance of winning and the most likely outcome will be a 75-74 Marquette victory.

I was surprised by this data. Any thoughts on why Dayton is getting this type of favorability? Bet at your own risk warriors.

I'll now rank the Big East Schools that I root for, and my reasons for said fandom.



1. Marquette (By a mile – no other school comes anywhere close.)

2. DePaul (I was a big Ray Meyers fan, and UD had a great rivalry with DePaul back when the Blue Demons had great basketball teams.)

3T. Georgetown and Villanova (I have great respect for them as outstanding examples of Catholic universities with outstanding academic reputations and NCAA champion-calibre basketball teams.)

5T. Providence, St. John's, and Seton Hall (I'm neutral about them, but that's better than disliking them.)

8. Creighton (Catholic, good academics, good basketball teams, and great attendance, but Nebraska is no place for a Big East team.)

9. Xavier (For over a century, UD's faculty, students, and alumni have justifiably looked down on Xavier as an inferior institution. It is not my place to challenge such a time-honored tradition. But at least Xavier is a Catholic school.)

10. Butler (I was a big fan of Brad Stevens, and there is absolutely nothing to dislike about Butler. However, I'm old-school, and as a matter of principle, I will always root for a Catholic school to beat a non-Catholic school, even though I feel nauseous every time that I root for Xavier to beat Butler.)

11. UConn (I have an extremely low opinion of UConn for reasons too numerous to list. As a matter of principle, I will always root for a private school to beat a public school.)

Needless to say, I'll be rooting for Marquette to win the Big East Tournament in March and the NCAA Tournament in April. A road win tonight over an apparent NCAAT-bound team will bolster Marquette's credentials for a No. 1 seed.

Dayton is pretty good and playing at home.   Fieldhouse Flyer, I appreciate your passion for your team and your ability to formulate a coherent thought.  However, I want you to stew in misery tonight.

Dayton is a good ball club.  They're quick and can lace the triple.  They're very comfortable playing at our tempo and getting into a track meet. I think our mindset needs to be owning the paint and wearing them down.  I'm hoping Jop breaks out today and our two other road games will have us in eagle-eye focus mode from the opening tip.  This team can really get hot from downtown.  We must eliminate that threat and usurp the long rebs.
