Did anyone else notice his shot looked much different last night? He seemed to not have any follow through, it reminded me of Shawn Marion's flick shot. It seemed to have worked for James though, 5-9 3pt.

His shot seems to look a little different every night.

I was saying that very thing in the chat last night.

Basically, his follow through is why he's a poor shooter. It's perfect on free throws -- or at least it has been for the past couple games -- but it's different on jumpshots.

Spot on. I hate to say it be he got a bit lucky last night. He usually misses when he pulls back his follow through, but last night he was feeling it to the point where that didn't matter. He usually does this when the shot is contested, on the pull-up 3 he hit after stealing the inbounds pass, he had nice form. I don't know why he gets into this habit when the shot is contested, with the way he can elevate on his shot.

If you're not following through on a shot, you're basically just heaving it at the rim and hoping it lands accurately. I actually think he does this even on shots near the basket. I also think it's a clear indication of somebody who has gotten by on freakish athletic ability for so long that nobody bothered to instruct him how to shoot.  Unfortunately, I believe nights like last night lead him to believe he's a three point threat!

Wouldn't instructing him be the role of the MU staff??  Now I don't usually want to point the finger because after all you can instruct someone but they then don't do it (I've taken enough golf leesons to know).  But since we have a team full of guards who are nearly universally weak shooters or haven't improved much at shooting you have to ask if maybe we don't have a good instructor.  Can you imagine if our guards could hit open threes closer to the rate that you typically see on high D1 teams, this team would be unstoppable.

just an fyi, GTown, ND, WV and Providence are the only teams in the BE in the top 100 according to espn in 3 pt %.  Duke, UNC, Memphis, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee were the only top ranked schools that jumped out at me that were on this list.  So saying 3 pt % closer to that of 'high D1 teams' doesn't really cover it because there are quite a few top 25 schools that do not rank that highly.  Most of the schools on the list are schools like VMI and Marist.

For the record, I was referring to his youth coaches. I think MU's staff has worked with him a ton. He just reverts back to his old technique under duress. His FT form is just great though.

thanks for the evidence titan. the quick release no follow through was most apparent on the shot fake take a dribble three, and the floater in the lane. it just looks really weird. other than that though his form looks fine, you can tell that from the FT. as long as its going in, he can shoot underhand like rick barry for all i care- another warrior!
