Congrats to Geno Auriemma for winning his 1217th game to set the D1 record for most coaching victories.

That's a good article by Rebecca Lobo one of Geno's earliest superstars. It mentions some staggering numbers: "One thousand two hundred seventeen wins. Eleven national championships. Twenty-three Final Fours. Six undefeated seasons. One hundred eleven wins in a row."

Then it focuses on 160 women who have played under Geno at UConn.

Here's my question: how many of those 160 players were part of national championship teams. I'm guessing that it's pretty high.

He and Pat Summitt are obviously 1A and 1B in the legends of the womens game and turning it from a minor sport into the big business it is now.  But Geno's UCONN 15 year run from 2007 to 2022 is one of the most astounding things in sports.  14 straight Final Fours, 6 titles, and a runner up.  And that was in a time frame that 9 different schools won titles and the sport had the most parity it ever did to that point.

That Geno - at age 70 and in his 40th season - has yet ANOTHER great team, one that should contend for yet ANOTHER national title ... pretty effen amazing.

Another fun fact, since, I believe 1995, there is only 1 time he missed the FF in back to back years. Also hasn't missed the S16...in 33 years  :o
