Streak helps MU climb Bracketology board

Written by: Emmett Prosser

With selection Sunday less than three weeks away, it is completely acceptable to keep your eye on ever-changing NCAA tournament projections.

Thanks to Marquette's recent five-game Big East winning streak, ESPN.com's Joe Lunardi has moved the Golden Eagles back onto the No. 5 line. Lunardi predicts the Golden Eagles will face 12th-seeded New Mexico in the first round.

Currently seven Big East teams are projected to make the field. However, Syracuse still has a chance make the field. The Orange host Marquette next Saturday at the Carrier Dome. Plenty of other teams remain on the bubble.

Marquette is 19th in Gary Parrish's CBS Sportsline poll.

Having grown up in Albuquerque (yeah...my first winter in MKE was hell) I started going to Lobo games in The Pit since I was very little so this would be a dream matchup for me.

Alford has New Mexico playing really well (despite loosing to BYU in OT last night) and Senior J.R. Giddens is a solid guard.  Beyond JR though, size-wise it is a wash, and there is no way UNM has the overall team speed to keep up with MU.

There is a lot of basketball to be played before selection sunday, but this would be a good first round opponent for MU.

How is Xavier a 2 seed? Is the A-10 that good this year?

A 10 looked like it would be really good this year with RI, Dayton (at Louisville)and UMass (at Syracuse)having some very good non-confernece wins but those teams have had medicore league records.  The thinking is Xavier is that good this year not the A-10, good PG in Lavendor who transferred from Oklahoma and was IIRC a top 50 guy out of HS.
